Those things hold no appeal for me, other than the fact that they're so unattractive and useless, it has a charm of it's own. I like to geek out on the old wheelguns, lever guns, and cool nostalgic stuff myself, but there is a part of me that revels in making folks gnash their teeth and grumble when they think someone else's gun is somehow their business to judge.
To be fair, I've seen and grown up with more useless choices around. Guns were always a familiarity in my childhood home. We had no shortage of quality weapons around. Pump shotguns, lever guns, Mini 14s, revolvers, etc. My mother's chosen self defense weapon was a single shot .410. My Father had bought it off a pool hustler for some scant amount of money. It was a Savage 24 .22 over .410 that had been cut off... very short. He carried it in a pool cue bag, and when things got tense he could allegedly sling that thing together in a hurry and use it to clear a path to beat feet outta town. My mother never used it, except on copper heads and mocassins. It made a mess of them anyways. The monstrosity pictured above would have been a better choice, had it existed in the 80's. But then, a good hickory axe handle may have been as well.
If one of those were given to me, I'd lose my mind trying to make it into something useful. That being said, if someone else had one, I'd be intrigued to hear about it. In the meantime, I think I want a Heritage single action .22 revolver with the pic rail on top and the threaded barrel. I wanna put a fake can on it, just to see how many people cringe at the range when they see it. So far, the best I got for that is a Chiappa Rhino, but that's actually a pretty great gun.
