Price for Unique Powder?

No kidding...I purchased most of my powders between 18-35 dollars as well as primers between 13-60 dollars seems like a hundred years ago. What the heck man...prices now are ridiculous. I have a good reserve of Unique, 231, Bullseye, AA2230 etc, however always looking out for some good deals on each.....Blessings!

Private sale? Low ball, then grudgingly up your offer until he agrees. Have you never bought anything? Bargaining is half the fun.

I’d have to get Unique at a very low price. It doesn’t meter well. It’s sooty. And it doesn’t do anything Accurate #5 does.

It’d be worth $40 a pound to me, and that’s about it.

If I was offering to sell some of my stash and someone offered me $30, I'd tell them to go suck an egg. You can't find any pistol powder for close to that and Unique is one of the most popular powders out there and it has been unavailable for years. The price of powder 10 years ago isn't relevant to the current price.

Offer something reasonable or pass. I'd consider anything under $40 insulting unless it's a friend or family, or the person is desperate to offload it.

I’ve got some Unique and have used it in the past for pistol loads. It doesn’t meter well and is pretty dirty leaving a lot of residue in barrel. I’ve personally found W231 to be far superior for my use. YMMV…

Better than Unique?? In my opinion I have to disagree with that thought. It's only been around about 125 years...and other powders have challenged the name Unique...None have surpassed it...But I am an old guy that doesn't want to HAVE to do all the load development to get a load that may equal...or even very slightly surpass Unique...and maybe not be on the market near future. I have used 100s of pounds of Unique and will continue as long as I can...To be honest...load development at today's prices is a waste of good but expensive resources. With some of the moves by the present administration...things powder and primers may be looking up...Why do we only have one maker of nitro cellulose in this country today...Obama/Biden years of EPA regs and America 2nd(3rd or 4th) on the world stage.
100s of pounds?? just figure a minimum of 200,000 times 15 gr...just in shotshells

The last I saw on the shelf at a LGS here was about a year and a half ago and it was priced at $64.95 a pound. It went fairly quickly.

When I first came to Texas there was a gas war, 22.9 cents a gallon. Now we pay whatever is on the pump. Always interesting to see people try to compare prices in the "good old days". If you need it you pay.

I picked up some accurate #9 at the last show for $35 a pound, I have so much 357 loaded I will be a while before I use up my unique but at least I'll have some backup.

I did have to drive about a 150 miles round trip, so you have to figure in the cost of gas, which puts it right around $210 when all is said and done, so I'm thinking it was worth it, given its versatility for many cartridges

If the can look like these it is from the 60's. The ones with labels ranged from $1.75 to $3.29



If the cans look like these it is from the 70's to early 90's. The ones I have with prices range from $7 to $12.



If the bottles are black plastic and from Alliant it is mid 90's forward. Alliant bought Hercules in 1995. I have some marked $14 to $18.



If it looks like this 4lb can, it could be 80's to 90's.
Recently picked up this one for $40---yes for the whole unopened 4 pound can!

I just noticed that you have some "Remco Shot capsules too. I bought some of those from Beikircks in Rochester back in 1979. had them forever and finally shot them up a few years ago.

Good eye. That is a complete box. I have loaded up another but they are pretty brittle.
For 38sp and 357 I load the speer capsules with #4, then shake in #12 to fill them up.
I have also played with some 72gr SWC cast bullets to cap loose shot.

Always fun to look at what accumulates on or above a bench.
