I Am So Sick Of Hearing the Term.....

More and more my generation is earning the moniker "OK, Boomer" from the constant broad brush bashing of younger generations due to resentment and bitterness. We have slipped as a targeted demographic as younger generations far outnumber us. This country is in their hands and I have faith that the bulk of them will do just fine.

This thread proves my point.

To add: I have kept up with the technology curve and embrace it. I use it for my benefit and great advantage.

It still impresses me as to what wonders lie at my fingertips.

Enjoy your cave drawings.

As I was leaving a restaurant a few months ago, I opened the door for an older guy “thank you young man” he said. I replied “I’m not that young”. His reply cracked me up “I got underwear older than you”.

The 80s kids from the Hood.
Cop, Marine, Phoenix Raven, Lawyer, Doctors, 2 Veterinarians, Animal Hospital owners, Olympian Short Track medalist, several successful business owners whose buddies are Detectives.
Pic by Phoenix Raven during rehab.

The Raven, the Cop and our boy, experienced Salt Water fishermen, as teenagers.
The Cop lost four of my fishing life vests, at age 18, and gave me a BPV, years later, after he put on a Badge, and thanked me for my patience.

Catch 'em up. 🎶🏴‍☠️🎶

But, under our watch, the debt went from single digit trillions to $37 trillion and growing rapidly. We can argue "we didn't do it" but collectively, we Boomers did do it, or certainly allowed it to be done.
It's the "under our watch" statement that has me confused.

Some of us worked hard, payed our taxes, did NOT overspend and raised a respectable family. We volunteered where we could do good, and contributed to worthwhile charities. We voted for politicians that "talked" good and also seemed to be responsible.

The debt growth was not our doing personally - it was a government that had flawed ideas. OK, I admit that "some" boomers voted for the trash in the swamp, but not "all" of us. That's where the term boomer bothers me. We are not all the same.

So, I disagree that the good ones among us "allowed" it to happen.

The OP opined about the derogatory comments he feels that are inappropriately made about boomers which suggested he didn't understand why those comments would be made. I'm simply pointing out that under our watch the debt ballooned to $37 trillion. While each of us may argue that it wasn't our doing, collectively it was. The generations that will have to pay it back won't look favorably on our allowing it to happen which I think explains some of the comments that the "Boomer generation" receive. As I said before, In an avalanche no single snowflake feels responsibility.

The term boomer brings to mind our nuclear submarines, which are among the most dangerous (maybe not the right word?) weapons ever created. Use powerful or capable, if dangerous offends. I am not so bold that I consider myself especially dangerous, but I rather like the boomer term.

I wonder about the fairness of disparagement of youngsters today. My children and their friends have always shown good manners when I’ve been around them, and most young adults I encounter seem at least as well mannered as my generation did when we were that age. 😊

And speaking of broad brushes, there's the "Greatest Generation". I knew plenty that were not so great, many were downright despicable...and many in the younger generations are fine people, but in my opinion at least 6 out of 10 are complete dolts. And yes, I love cave drawings.

I’m a “boomer” along with both my brothers. Models of 47, 52 & 57!

Not as much fun being this old now. But, those years spent in the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s were wonderful. I would have hated to have missed them.

Brothers feel much the same. Extraordinary times indeed.

How about the word formidable? I think that sounds right for our subs.

Rick

Is it really under our watch? We have been outnumbered for a while now...the biggest balloons are under their watch.
Hard to see it as not "under our watch." Congress is almost 50% Boomers while our share of the population is about 21%. If it wasn't up to us to control the debt, who should have done it?
