Bench warrant for the trespassers. Only people in the courtroom were me, the conservation officer, clerk, bailiff and judge.

You might put up another sign next to the DON'T ASK sign saying SURVEILLANCE CAMERA AREA AHEAD.

At the farm we'd get folks who ran out of gas or who drove (drunk sometimes) their car into a ditch or field. We'd give them a gallon of gas in a glass bottle or pull them out with a tractor if it wasn't too inconvenient. Always answered the door with a shotgun in hand, but never had trouble. I do recall one young lady very late one night, she'd broken up with her boyfriend and he kicked her out of the car, let the police give her a ride home.

Never had people think the place was abandoned.

The abandoned line is BS. There are multiple occupied homesites and active barns/cattle you have to drive past to get to my house. Before I bought it we drove by and there was a for sale by appointment only sign. We drove part way in and said this isn't right, drove back out and made a phone call. Guess I was raised right.

My Mother inherited 23 acres in a small town, Western NC mountains from her Dad in 1968.
Adjacent was the 7 acres with old homestead and another 20 acres parcel that went to her brother and younger Sister ( were she still lived) so the estate was settled and remained in the family.
Shortly after my mom and dad went up (we live in Florida) to walk over the property.
It was gently sloped, wooded except for about 7 acres which was in hay, which mom would have mowed twice a year.
Here is the strange and funny part, while on the property a local police or sheriff officer
accosted them, (I use accosted because in his tone he was immediately hostile)
YELLING trespassing. My folks explained who they were, with no effect, the cop threatened arrest.
Interestingly, the folks did not have NO Trespassing signs posted at that time.
The COP still belligerent escorted mom and dad to their car, detained them and called in the Florida Plate.
Fortunately, the Cop's back up arrived and he in fact knew my mother & dad, and knew my Granddad also knew of the inheritance and particulars.
So, you might think the caper was over, not quite... seems the reason the assshat cop was so
belligerent was he lived near-by and kept a vigilant eye on moms 7-acre open hay field,
because that is where HE was growing his crop marijuana in pots.
It was a large enough haul, that got the COP time in jail.
It was not my folks having anything to do him getting caught however, Seems the FEDs
had discovered the crop and were staking it out. The COP got federal jail time.
We found out about it all subsequently after the fact.

We have "Caution: Firearms in Use" signs posted on our property. They have been pretty effective in keeping trespassers out. I am known as the guy who "shoots guns all the time".

I told them no to access and they say well we own all the coops in your fence lines and will maintain them. Probably 50 or more, most in disrepair. They are going to start disappearing. The gentleman farmers in the area tell me it's the neighborly thing to do, and I don't disagree, but they scatter my calves and have an entitled attitude.

A coop is a slatted ramp for horses to jump over that usually keeps livestock in. Or it is a place for chickens. Or it is local cooperative market. It would help if they used a hyphen for the market but they don't. So when somebody says "by the coop" I have no idea what they are talking about unless they say co op.

Hunting season coming up. Property is well posed plus additional signage at all entrances. Still get lots of people driving up and knocking on doors, looking in windows to see who is home. Getting pretty tired of stopping a guy in a pickup after he drives a mile up my driveway to ask to hunt or to offer to shoot coyotes. Usually something like "Hey I wanted to ask if I can hunt here." I say did you see the no trespass and no hunting signs? Yeah, but I wanted to talk to the owner. We've been hunting this land for generations (usually lies). Prosecuted a few poachers but they still keep coming. Always the same story - I know the owner and he said I can hunt/fish here. What's his name, what does he drive? I don't remember... Only been here a few years but the old manager was here for 30+ and never allowed any hunting other than him and his buddies. Thinking about adding DO NOT ASK signs but I assume I'll get, Yeah I saw the sign but I figured I'd ask anyway. Actually stopped the Porta John driver who was wandering around and he said I'm gonna get to know the owner here so I can hunt this land. Cattle farm in Virginia for reference. Yes, we have cameras. Thoughts?

Im in VA and currently have the same problem. Now trespassers are coming in with ATV's through adjoining property that owners live out of state. My signs have been torn down and they are creating trails and using my trails and roads… New signs and chains going up this week along with game cameras.

I've used a variety of high tensile wire, chain, locks, etc. Some get cut, come get climbed over. Between hunters, Dominion power, DEQ, NRCS, you never know what you are running into. A power truck was driving all around a couple days ago from a different company. I wasn't sure why they were there. My son stopped them. Looking to hunt. Wonder if his boss knows that's how he spends his day.

A popular variation up here is a sign stating YOU ARE NOW IN RANGE!

A friend has one and he notes the amount of A type turn arounds showing up in his rather sandy driveway at that point!

At first I took a chainsaw and cut trees across the path. Next time there the trees had all been cut up and the logs neatly placed next to the trail.

I hear ya. I'm trying, but damn if I don't have a sick calf and tell the local fox hunting club to stay out of a field and off my property. Next thing I get is a text saying they are holding a hunt in that field the next morning, and I'm always away. I've told them to stay out and they always respond that they appreciate my cooperation and require access to my property for the safety of their dogs. I don't know what's worse, the locals or the private equity fund fox hunt club.

I'm sorry I don't understand this. Are you saying that they have some right to override you telling them not to be on your property

My response would be that dogs are not allowed on my property and if I see one it will be shot.

In my county dogs must be leashed. If roaming wild it is legal to shoot them.

I realize that dog owners will be aghast at my comments. My response is that if you are a responsible dog owner you will keep them secured so you won't give me the opportunity.

Somebody's dog running loose did that to me. I will carry those scars for the rest of my life

I used to be one of those dog advocate people.

I did a search, hoping for a picture, but what I found pretty much split between co-op and "how to turn your old horse stable into a chicken coop".

I posted my 100-acre farm every other year, with one side against a school land where there was no hunting on that 40 acres. I got tired of the number of people who told me they had permission to hunt there. After a couple of years, I just started giving them tickets for trespassing and for the ones who refused to sign the citation. I had them removed and hunting gear forfeited as the law allowed. One person rebuilt his tree stand three times before he understood, after a jail sentence.

I mean, I can't say it's a huge property it's like 40 acres in area and I think it's actually 20 acres long by 2 Acres wide.

Point being, if you're on my property elicitly I'm going to see you as soon as I walk out my door.

Main point being that I don't really have this problem.

I said all that to say this I go down to the range maybe once or twice a week and shoot maybe a hundred rounds or 50 rounds of .22.

My grandson-in-law is out there every other day, I have no idea where he gets the money for ammunition because he is way too dumb to reload but he just goes down there and has a mad minute.

I've been down there after he shoots and it looks to me like he's just pointing his weapon at the berm and emptying the magazine.

If that don't keep the neighbors away nothing will

We hear gunshots all the time, not just during hunting season. That's another reason I want people off....don't want to catch a round from some idiots shooting at whatever. I've got pastures, hills and woods (not complaining) so it's a bit to patrol.

I used to dream of buying a cabin with my brother in some remote and beautiful area to use as an occasional retreat.

Thinking it through, though, I gave up on the idea as I think an unoccupied cabin would be a draw for all sorts of miscreants, leading to considerably more headaches than pleasure for me.
