Anyone waiting on a Lipsey S&W?
I've been looking for dealer's in Las Vegas who are distributors for Lipsey's S&W revolvers without the hammer lock. Tho several are listed, the only dealer who would help me order one is Spartan Arms. They contacted S&W who related they were not in production yet, but would take orders from authorized dealers. The only bummer was I had to pay full price and it could arrive a few months or as long as 18 months. I was thru this before during the Obama era waiting for a S&W AR10. That took 6 months.

Careful with new mountain gun 610s as the gold dot front sight went flying after first 5 cylinders. Unacceptable for $1200 pistol. Called S&W for replacement over a month ago and asked why they did' nt use loc-tite? Guy said they were afraid loc-tite would get " somewhere it didnt belong". Speaks volumes about their assemblers…….

If you bought any nib firearms during the late 1970's or early 1980's, you'd know firearms in need of tlc or even finishing isn't new.

I wouldn't buy anything from S&W without seeing it first
As I mentioned in my initial post, I've waited for guns before. Worst case scenario, I'll send it back for service. I made the mistake of selling off a 629 with the unfluted cylinder after S&W serviced (and corrected the problem) refacing the cylinder front. Everytime I look at the case it came in, I kick myself.

There were several that popped on GB so they must be in production or were in production.

Could you post a pic of your 6 1/2 in mtn gun for us?
I wish I could; however, I don't have it. Anyway, it turns out they ordered the wrong Model 610. I got a call this afternoon the gun had come in. When I got there, I asked to see the gun. What they showed me was the "typical" S&W post-lock 610.
I informed them it was the wrong gun. We sort of haggled a bit until they relented and did a look-up. The only Lipsey S&W Model 610 Mountain Gun listed is a 41/4 inch tapered barrel with smooth target stocks.
It's not available—yet. S&W is allowing authorized dealer to put in their orders. So I'm back to square one. That's okay because when I got off the phone earlier, I told my wife it arrived too soon and I felt they may have received the wrong gun. A shame, really. 61/2" tapered barrels on N frames feel properly balanced. No we really wait!

They are still making Model 610's with the hammer lock. Way back in 1976, I was working patrol on a mid-shift at Bolling AFB. I pulled into the parking lot and walked to the basement entrance to turn in paperwork. You have to walk down several cement steps. As I stepped down in the darkness, I heard the distinct metal over metal tumbling down the steps. The strap on my holster must've unsnapped, and my Model 15 was was tumbling. I froze, waiting for an expected round to go off. The gun safely settled at the bottom of the steps. I quickly recover & holstered the gun before being seen.
That is the night I learned to appreciate the hammer block. Nothing else should've been added to make S&W revolvers safe.
