Baby Boomers to College Grads: We're Sorry

I apologize for nothing. I worked and provided for myself and my family, didn't vote for the policies or politicians that put us in this mess and resent the hell out of these fat cat college boys who finally sobered up from their 1960's hangovers and want absolution for being stupid and self-indulgent.

My parents didn't apologize to me for WWII or the Depression - they simply taught me that I had to deal with what life allowed me to have.

This whole article is more of the same touchy-feely crapolia that got us into this mess - someone else is always to blame and always responsible. The poor college graduates of today have to suffer for the bad decisions and excesses of those who came before them. Well, boo-hoo.

My children were the first two in my family to graduate from college. They both promptly took responsibility for their own lives and upkeep. Though I would give my life for them and give them anything I could to help them, I'm proud to say they've never asked for a dime and always made their own way even in the tough times.

There is a portion of this country that seems to revel, though, in turning out world class hand-wringing bed wetters.

I gave my nephew a remarkable Christmas present just this past season...
a 450W per channel no holds barred stereo.
The catch was ... it also came with a roll of solder, soldering iron and a DMM.
reports came in that the Stereo went operational just three weeks ago and it broke 3 windows when it did.
I dont tolerate "bed wetters" on my watch

I graduated from college 40 years ago yesterday and was drafted 5 weeks later and in Vietnam 5 months after that. I retired last year after 30 years with one company. My wife and I were both driving 10 year old cars until last month when we bought a new 3 year old car. We have no debt, have been married 39 years and raised 2 kids.

As has been stated, you need to take responsibility for yourself and not spend money you don't have. Today's situation is not my fault.

I am with you guys too. I had very little schooling beyound I school and never cost the goverment anything else. Worked a average of 65 hours a week for over 35 years, paid my huge taxs and never got a nickle of goverment help. Never needed a cop or fireman.
Never voted for this gang. In my opinion all this started with protesters and libs all the way back to the viet nam era. Commie educators useing greenies, breakdown in morals,
hollywood etc. This is almost entirely due to commies getting to our youth from the early 60s on. The yuppie generation let their kids get out of line and enough of these dupes finaly outnumbered and out voted us. It,s sad times and just starting!

I think that about covers it....

Not me!

Gael,

what do you think?

For me, the guys above pretty much tell my story. Navy 69'-75'. Worked 30+ years, retired/disabled. Own home (2nd), owe nobody, don't even have a credit card. Every 10 years or so, get a new car. Both kids college grads. Volunteer youth sports coach 30+ years. Find someone else to apologize.

The only thing that I can say is...

I am truly sorry that world events (World Wars One and Two) stole so many of the best men and women that America had, and had they all lived, I would love to think that this country would be a more noble nation because of them.

As a country, we had to grow up quickly. It was the American Spirit that allowed us to win those wars, but it was that spirit of self-sacrifice and "give it all" that took so many of the minds and good men that would have carved their niches into the direction of the nation.

I'm just sorry that us, the living, have corrupted their sacrifice by allowing things to get way today.
I'm not talking about success and having lots of things- there isn't a thing wrong with that so long as it is earned with hard work.
That's what gets me, so much of it has been gotten dishonestly, but it isn't the generation's fault- just those who are at fault.
Sounds more like a fallacy to me. The guy should be horse-whipped, while in a swamp full of mosquitoes in south Georgia.

Graduates of today have very little in common with those who graduated before WWII- very little moral, fiscal or spiritual backbone.

There are exceptions to the norm- graduates that will stand tall when they need to for freedom, justice, and the American way.

Sounds to me like this is a man with a guilty conscience.

I grew up hungry; I've banished hunger from my home.

I grew up in poverty; I earn a respectable living.

I volunteered to go to war in 1969 and make no apologies for serving my country.

I went to college at night, worked during the day, held a second job and spent week-ends in the National Guard.

My kids served in the military, graduated college and are doing just fine.

I may not have set the world on fire but I did work to keep it from burning down.

Now my time is coming to a close. I'm another boomer that has nothing to apologize for. It's called America; there is opportunity here for those that will step up and take it. It is joined at the hip with its brother, something we call freedom.

I expect thanks from no one and apologize to no one.

Everybody gets to be heard. Now that I've heard this man speak I'm going to disregard him. There is no merit in what he has to say.

I completely agree with you guys, just thought that those of you that are classified as "baby boomers" should know that you are having someone apologize on your behalf.

Please.

If you really buy into that "ate everything in sight" noise, then push back from the table. We've failed to hold the guilty responsible for this mess, and now me and my generation will pay... and pay... and pay for it. The current administration is no better, and in some ways far worse. Guess ya can't trust anybody over 45.

Get over yourself - it's a fallacy that the majority of us had it handed to us and we dropped the ball. Those that follow always have something to fix, repair, and make better. I have faith the current group is up to the challenge, but the latest generations don't have any more pressing problems than the previous, regardless of what they would like to believe.

Life is struggle and problems. Look back in 30 or 40 years and see how many of your contemporaries "rose above it all" and did so much better than their fathers or grandfathers. Not because they didn't have the opportunity - but if they don't do better it will because they bought into the "oh woe is me" garbage like the article in question.

Turn away from the doom and gloom whiners and determine that you are responsible for you. This divide and conquer class warfare strategy has been the Left's stock-in-trade for decades. It only works if you subscribe to it.

Unfortunately, I don't have that much faith in my age group (I am 25). My dad had a few lessons for me, the first being "you can either help fix the problem, or you can STFU."

I see this in so many of the younger generation. They think that life just falls into place exactly the way they want and are genuinely shocked when it doesn't.

Hey kids, NEWS FLASH: LIFE IS TOUGH. DEAL WITH IT!

I ain't apologizing for nuthin'.

I went through a bad marriage where the ex ran off with someone. Our daughter was the rebel of rebels. I fought for custody and lost. The ex wife couldnt handle her, she quit school in I think, the 6th grade. Juvie hall once too. She did get her HS diploma under some program going in about a half day a week. She was a single mother but was able to take the baby to work with her. She could have got welfare as the father was in lock-up, but she never took a dime. She married the loser for awhile and had another child. She divorcied him (with belive me, just cause), and he went back to the big house. So, NO child support for two! She still refused welfare, works always at least two jobs. She seldom would accept help from me, although she always knows I am standing by ready to help.
She went to a massage theropy school and does that for a job a number of hours a week besides her regular job. She also works a few nights a week as a fancy resturant host. Yesterday I got a E-mail that she now is going to work as a chiropractors assistant. Also, she told me she is starting to study as a paralegal! On top of all that, she hates Obama! She met a nice guy who just done a couple of tours in iraq as a air para rescue? Anyway she is 30, a knockout with two beautifull daughters, and I am a proud dad and grandpa! All the youth arent Obama zombies!!

He paints with too broad a brush. Those of us who served in the military can't be accused of being lazy or selfish or self centered.

babt boomers

apologize, surely you jest. not now,not ever!!!!!!!
