Current Customer Support Turnaround Time?

Does anyone have any idea what the current turnaround time is for charge work? My Model 1076 was delivered to them this morning and I'm wondering how long it's going to be before I hear back from them.

It depends on how serious the repair is and how deep the backlog is at the moment. Paid work usually gets top priority.

Well, I called S&W this afternoon and they told me the opposite. The customer support rep I spoke to told me the current turnaround on warranty work was seven to ten days and four to six weeks for charge work!

Since my pistol likely only needs a new extractor and extractor spring, I'm praying they have pity on me and send it to warranty to have the work done which the rep told me they often do with minor repairs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I'd really hate to have to wait till August to see my pistol again.

Wow, that's really surprising they would have such a long response time for such a simple repair. Truth is, the hassle of getting guns fixed is why I trained myself to smith all the types of guns I own.... that and the $85 shipping charge every time I had to send it anywhere to get worked on.

I have had good luck finding armorer's manuals on line for guns as well as sites where nice people post extensive pictures and service info. I could never have figured out my Para LDA without a full set of service pics, that thing is more complicated than a computer.

Thanks, bountyhunter. Actually, I've done a fair amount of 'smithing myself, mostly on 1911s, but properly installing an extractor on a 3rd Gen pistol requires tools I don't own and which would likely cost me more than the repair bill to purchase.

The 4-6 week estimate given me is the current turnaround for any repair. Apparently, they're fairly well backlogged at the moment.

P.S.- The UPS Next Day Air Saver charge was $37 for me to ship it back to Springfield.

I called the factory yesterday about a frame repair on a 637-2. The rep. told me they were swamped with repair orders and to expect delays of up to six weeks. Good Luck, TonyR

You should get a mailed notice stating approximate wait time in a couple more days.

I just sent a 610 in for piercing primers and the notification sent back to me stated 4-6 weeks for repair. No big deal as I have other S&W's to fire anyway, but could be maddening if that's your one and only.

There isn't too much of an alternative though if you want it done right by the folks that built it in the first place.

Well, I guess the info I received was correct then.............4 to 6 weeks. The 1076 isn't the only Smith I own, but it's the only 10mm handgun I own. All this 10mm ammo and nothing to shoot it out of!

On the bright side, this situation is a good excuse for me to pick up something else chambered in 10mm in the next week or two. Maybe a new Colt Delta Elite IV or Fusion 1911.

I have never had a gun shipped back and had it take more than 6 working days. They were warranty jobs though. I sent my 1911 back, unhappy with the trigger pull weight. It went out Thursday was back Tuesday, with a good trigger. That has to be some kind of a record, maybe!!

Apparently, warranty work gets the fast track because they told me the current turnaround for warranty work is 7 to 10 days while charge work is 4 to 6 weeks. That's quite a difference.
