So I have a pair of reasonably new to me 500's A 6 1/2 inch and the 8 3/8 inch models, here soon the 8 3/8 model will don a scope. So I'm looking for some holster pics to give me ideas on what to put these bad boys in.

New picture..as they are now..

And how bout some details, Holster Maker, where did you get it and most importantly.. do you like it!

Thanks..

Yes, I like it. Belt and leg strap down.
I don't know who made it, no name or markings on it at all.
Found it on Ebay I belive.
And I'm only 5'8", 160 lbs.......

I have one of those for my Ruger Redhawk and will probably also get one for at least one of my 500's..I like it too.

I have made precisely two X-frame holsters, both for local customers who brought their revolvers into the shop for patterning and fitting the holsters.

I receive requests for X-frame holsters perhaps 5 or 6 times per year, but I don't recall ever receiving two requests for the same revolver model.

There are no "dummy guns" available for holster makers, and given the relatively small segment of the handgun market that these revolvers represent, I doubt that dummy guns will ever be made. That leaves the only option of purchasing the actual handgun for patterning and forming holsters. Each of these represents well over a thousand dollars to acquire, and several models exist (and more are likely to be introduced as time goes by).

For those of you who have decided to invest in one of these fine revolvers and want to have a holster specifically fitted for it, I'd suggest that you get used to the idea of custom shop work, shipping your revolver to the holster maker (and paying the freight, insurance, and FFL fees both ways), and opening up your checkbooks to get what you want. There won't be much in general production in the foreseeable future.

Best regards.

Sorry, no pics but here's a link to what I have.
#77 "Tortilla" Holster
EPS sent a holster for the 4" 500 which didn't fit properly so they may not have had a dummy model at the time. This was several years ago though and not many holster manufacturers offered anything.
Anyway, EPS made good on the holster and the 2nd one sent was fine.
ETA:
With the longer tubes and scope, I'd look at this:

And might also consider a chesty puller rig.

Interesting, I like the pancake style.. maybe more stable on the belt with those wide belt loop slots.

Ordered one the other day, should be here between today and Wednesday. Cant wait!

I apologize on the used vs owned statement if anyone was offended. It wasn't meant that way at all. It just seems witty at the time.

Maybe one less Makers Mark next time I type, so that my "auto correct" is working at full speed.

No problem at all..I was just being witty back is all..:D

I also use my 500 for hunting....

I prefer leather and look for a very secure holster as I'm usually crawling on my belly in the rough terrain I prefer to hunt.

Below is a picture of an A.E.Nelson holster I had made for my 6.5. It's a leather holster based on utility and firearm security rather than appearance.

It was easily among the lowest priced all leather holsters I researched with the current price at $88.00.

I bought their "pouch type". They have since begun to offer a spring type break-open that looks very appealing. That new break-open is the one I'm referring to...

Their web address showing the new holster is:

A. E. Nelson Leather Co.

Don't expect these to be an absolute work of artistic leather art but I can vouch for them being an excellent choice as a "work horse" holster...

My "pouch" type...

It was an eBay deal, $36.99 free shipping.

Got it Saturday, seems pretty good. Still want a good leather one also.

Thanks a lot AO...They still had 4 and I got one. I have the 460 but it is the 8 3/8 barrel and a scope so i figure it will work fine...What the heck..how can you go wrong for 40 bucks. Thanks guys.

Thank you, that spring retention one with the safety strap looks very nice. You can pull it out forward, and still have a retention strap so it doesn't go anywhere till you want it to.
(#58), especially for the price. I too am a function kinda guy.. just want it to do its job.
What color is yours called?
