Default Myres Inspired

Sometimes history just needs to be repeated.

Classic gunleather is timeless, and while leatherwork in general brings me great pleasure, re-creating gunleather of yesteryear is my passion.

A recent post by bracebeemer inspired this holster. The first photo is the original Myres holster, the second is my re-creation minus the lacework.

A customer requested a custom display case modeled after this photo of what I believe to be a Myres case built for Charles Askins...

He provided the ammo block and screwdrivers. I based my carving pattern on classic Myres floral carving.

Thanks for looking!

That is some fine leather work. Thanks for showing it.
What weight leather did you use on the case?

Are the letters stamped or hand cut? (on yours)
I know you said the original case is a picture but I was wondering if you know why there is stitching at both ends of the top? I don't guess you have a pic of the inside?
I love stuff like this.

The letters are cut with a swivel knife and beveled. I believe the sides of the lid on the Askins case were stitched on, where as mine is one piece folded to form the sides. Here is an image from a Myres catalog...

OK, thanks Doc. Nice job on the letters.
I've made a few boxes and I folded mine also.

Doc, I actually prefer your "copy" - sans lacing - to the Myres original. As much as I love Myres holsters, I never warmed up to their style of edge lacing. Just a little over the top for my personal taste.

The box is also a fine item. I've got a carved one by Chas. Bluemel I need to get some pics of to share here.
