Shoulder holster woods carry
Hey Guys,
I have a 629 that I carry on my side when I'm walking in bear country. I have seen some over the shoulder rigs where the gun is vertical, mostly in outdoors programs shot in AL. I have been looking for one but can't seem to find a non leather...the leather I found is $200, and I'm not spending that kind of money.
Any ideas on what I can buy? Thanks

I have Bianchi X2100 and X15 models for carrying my 4” K and N frames. Triple K and Safariland make similar models.
You need to come to grips with price and comfort. A three pound handgun gets heavier as the day passes.

Bianchi's HuSH 'bandolier' holster is the best of them all, non-leather or gunleather, ever devised. But -- I see from an OpticsPlanet headline that it is now discontinued. Auction sites will have them still. My personal experience with it on a hunt in Wyoming with a scoped Redhawk was it carrying the weight ideally, and standing up to rain and even crawling in the dirt (with optional, removable flap).

Check out the Simply Rugged website and take a look at their "Chesty Puller" rig. It gets great reviews for the type of carry you describe.

Thanks for the comments....
I did see the guides choice before posting....very nice option, but more that I want to spend. I'm about to drop a ton of $ on a custom rifle so would like to avoid spending this much.
I also saw the Bianci but couldn't find one for my 5" 629
I emailed Bianchi about the HUSH for my gun, haven't heard anything back. I like this one and would buy it if I could find it.
I also found this...that might be a good choice.
DeSantis Black Mamba Chest Holster Right Hand S&W - MPN: M40BA47Z0
I have a couple of Bianchi right hand hip holsters that I may sell to fund my new purchase. I like their products. Very nice.

The Bianchi HuSH was made for 6-1/2" N and for 8-3/8" N and no others (except another size for the scoped versions). If it were me I'd buy the 6-1/2"; the pistol does not stop on the muzzle inside the holster, but on the trigger guard.

I use an Uncle Mike’s hip holster ($15) with a USGI padded machine-gun sling ($20), attached to the belt-loops. I attached a nylon loop on the bottom of the holster, which secures the holster to my belt. The padded-sling wraps around my back, comes over my left shoulder bandoleer style. Holds my 7.5 Redhawk comfortably for less than $50.

For as many days as most of us carry a big gun in the woods while hunting, tying several hundred dollars into a holster that will only carry one gun just doesn't make sense...
I bought four different models of this holster and they hold all my hunting guns from a Colt Commander to a scoped 8 3/8" S&W....this one holds my Smiths from 5-6.5" as well as my larger single actions....it is made in the USA and can be worn on the chest, belt or under the arm. It is totally ambidextrous. I usually use it in the under arm position...
Bandolier Shoulder Holster for 6" Revolver Fits RUGER, S & W, COLT 761656044496 | eBay
I have them for a scoped large handgun, 4-5" semi and 3-4" revolver in addition to the 5-6.5" revolvers...covers almost all the guns I own...
If I lived somewhere that I was going to be in the bush all the time and needed to carry a gun on he chest I would probably go with the Simply Rugged because I have several of their holsters....but that DeSantis looks very good...

When I go in the woods it usually involves riding an atv also. For me, wearing the usual holster in the cross-draw position is the most comfortable and out of the way.

I have both Bianchi X15 shoulder holsters and 511 Cyclone cross draw holsters....... for both my 4"& 6" 686 and 586s.
I tend to carry a 4" L-frame vs the 6" and use the Cyclone most except in the winter when I'll use the X15 under my coat.
Mine were all found used, but like new, in local gun shops for about 20-25% of new.

This has been very helpful guys. Now if one of you guys would buy my 627 PC, I could afford the $200 chest holster...

I have an old Uncle Mike's vertical shoulder holster for a 6 inch N-frame I could send you. PM your address, and I'll drop it in the mail.
