Default Bodyguard holster

Trying to find a leather IWB holster with thumb break for the S&W 38 Bodyguard. Bought a couple that advertised they were for that model but they do not fit. The top mounted cylinder release latch seems to be the culprit. Both holsters I bought will work with my wife’s Lady Smith but not the Bodyguard. I really like the Desantis dual carry II . Made for the J frame but thumb break will not go over that top latch lever. No amount of stretching has helped. Any suggestions?

First, understand that the Tupperware bodyguard 38 isn’t a J frame. It’s an action used in no other gun.

The bodyguard 38 is reliably unreliable (a design flaw Smith won’t fix) and is not well thought of. As a result, it hasn’t sold well. It’s not an attractive product for holster manufacturers to invest in.

An additional issue is Smith’s use of the name “Bodyguard” to describe this thing. Historically, Models 49, 38, 638 etc are denominated Bodyguards and holster manufacturers refer to those guns as bodyguards. This may lead consumers to holsters not compatible with the newer Tupperware thing.

Thanks much. I kinda figured as much. When I read a description saying it fits the 38 Bodyguard, it probably does but not this new one. My wife got a laugh out of the Tupperware thing. Guess I should try to sell it & get a real gun.

Thumb snaps are almost always on OWB holsters.
Even custom makers don't like to do it.

I know thumb breaks usually aren’t needed on IWB, but I really like the added assurance my firearm won’t fall out while I’m out and about. I do lots of walking & climbing around on things with lots of leaning over to pick up stuff I’ve had a couple of holsters that the firearm can work itself up a bit. Never had one come out but just making sure. Think I’ll sell this & get a s&w 442 or something similar. Didn’t realize it was so unpopular when I bought it.
