Default BG 380 pocket holster decision

I’m trying to decide on a new pocket holster for my Bodyguard 380. I currently use a Desantis nemesis and am not happy with it. Bulky and it prints. After doing some reading there has to be something better and I’ve narrowed it down to two types. Either a soft pocket holster made by Robert Mika or a kydex made by PJ holster or one by Aholster.
Any thoughts, recommendations, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I carry a revolver in a Bob Mika holster and couldn’t be more pleased with his customer service and his quality. Highly recommended.

I have a P380 and Ruger Lcp I'll and have my p380 Talon leather pocket holster and my LCP in a Kydex one. The leather is somewhat pliable, and is good as out not printing. My Kydex works equally as well, but I have learned over time that Kydex holsters will allow the finish to be rubbed off the edges. It is not a big problem if you have a SS slide, but Ruger LCP's are carbon steel. I assume your bodyguard has stainless with S&W's nitrite, so no rust.

Let me just say that I've bought three Mika Holsters, one as gift to a friend. They are not bulky (I previously had a Nemesis). My original is probably 15 years old and still serving me well. Robert gives great service and a quality product. He is my go-to for a pocket holster.

If you’re a lefty get a Kydex model that covers the mag button b/c the mag pops out while in a soft pocket holster.

So your saying the Mika is a lot thinner than the Nemesis?

I have a Mika for the BG380 and it does print in the front pocket. I have used the Nemesis, but so far my most used is the Ace Case $12.95 pocket holster available on Ebay. The gun doesn't print but the draw is a little slower.

I daily carry a tiny pocket pistol ( either .32 or .25), and have tried numerous holsters over the years. But a few years ago, a fellow Seecamp forum member suggested the Jackson Leather Company. So that has become my favorite; very good quality, minimal "print", plenty of coverage, yet still allows good purchase on the grip. They have an extensive web-site.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Mika holsters but every time I see a pic of one they look padded and bulky like my Nemesis holster. The other thing that worries me is that one of the features of the Mika’s is that they have little retention and draw easily. My concern with that is that it could cause the gun to slip out of my pocket while sitting down.

I have a Mika that I use occasionally for a Colt Detective Special. I have never had the slightest fear of it falling out of my pocket, and think it would not be an issue barring hanging upside down from monkey bars... Or doing somersaults and handsprings...

I do like it in a fairly deep pocket so someone behind me can't see the gun butt, and decided against carrying it one pair of shorts last summer for this reason. But in all my other pants — primarily cargos and khakis — have not found this to be an issue.

They do have little, if any, retention, but I think that is what most users/Mika fans like about them. Totally snag free draw. And they're in your pocket. Even if you are upside down in a roller coaster loop — AKA the Disney Land Test — it's not going anywhere if you're sitting down because of your body shape, that you're bent at the waist, will hold it in your pocket securely. (Also this is why some do not like pocket holsters since hard to draw sitting down at a table or in a car.)

Re padded and bulky, the mouth is reinforced with some sort of slim, highly flexible but resiliently strong, plastic/kevlar (?) insert that will open up the holster if it's out of the pocket. Maybe that makes it look bulky to you? In the pocket it will only open up to a certain extent, limited by the size of the pocket. The holster material is a very lightly padded-on-the-inside synthetic material of some sort that looks like leather but clearly is not. The material is not bulky. It is quite thin.

Re printing, of course people can see one has something in their pocket, unless your pants are super baggy, but as to what it is, well, I've never felt exposed.

It is an excellent holster. Note there are two shapes, square bottomed and rounded, so choose per your pockets' shapes. (I got both.)

It's an excellent pocket holster.

I like the small minimalist idea of that holster but I’m worried about printing. I live in a very non friendly gun state and that can be a big issue.

Unless you wear REALLY tight pants the Boraii will likely print less, than other holsters that cover the whole gun. What will generally "print" and draw the eye in most pants, is bulk, rather than shape. The Boraii is what I use, and it prints like a cell phone, if at all. Ive used the Desantis Nemesis, and one of those leather pocket holsters, with the flat flap on the outside to break up the guns outline, and both where way more conspicuous than the Boraii. The Boraii also holds the gun completely secure, where it won't fall or slip out to expose the trigger, but still come off every time with proper draw technique. I'm pretty sure they can still be had for about $25 each on Amazon. At that price they are certainly worth a try.

Good point. They are not that expensive to try it out and see if it works.

I was surprised you didn't like the Nemesis. I have pocket carried my BG380 in one for years and have been very happy with it. I wear Carhart jeans, traditional fit, tapered leg, so they don't have overly large or loose fitting pockets. The gun doesn't print at all when I'm standing or walking. And when I sit, it's not "gun shaped" in my pocket. Nobody has ever commented, and only my close friends even know I always carry.

OP - Not questioning your opinion of the Nemesis. I only posted this because as time goes on others doing a search for the right pocket holster will find this thread, and might find the Nemesis works as well for them as it does for me. Best thing about pocket holsters is they're cheap. You can have a Nemesis in two days from Amazon, and it's not like you'll have a $100 custom holster sitting in the drawer if you don't like it.

Good luck with your search.

By the way. I only carry the BG now when I'm wearing a tucked in shirt. All other times, it's a J frame either AIWB or OWB. I rarely pocket carry a J frame, but I have holsters from both Mica and another Nemesis. Of the two, I'm not sure which I prefer. Sometimes I like the Mica, sometimes I prefer the Nemesis.

I find that the nemesis is bulky and thick. But then again when I first started carrying my Bodyguard I did so with no holster. Then I started carrying with a clip draw and still no holster or trigger cover. Then I decided I wanted something holster like just to keep it from rotating in my pocket. That’s how I ended up with the Nemesis. It has gotten slightly more comfortable wearing it, but that’s because the wing part is starting to curve and mold to my like. The problem with that is it now looks more like a gun in my pocket.
So I’m trying to find something better. I’ve narrowed it down to the Mika or go with kydex like the PJ holster. I’m even tempted to try the Boraii just because it’s extremely minimal and inexpensive, but I have a feeling it’s gonna be difficult to get it to release from the pocket.

I never understood the use of those padded pocket holsters that make it look like you’re shoplifting a Club Sandwich.

I use one with the Ruger logo that was made for an LCP, I think.

Fits like it was made for the Smith.

Hey....maybe I paid for the club sandwich and just like carrying it in my pocket. 😁

You guys made me question if I really had a Nemesis. Yep. It has the Desantis tag and model U7. I keep the BG in it and just stuck it in my pocket. Couldn't tell it was there. I wonder if mine has flattened out from years of carry. I just dug out the Nemesis for my J frame, which has seen minimal use, and the material did feel thicker.

At any rate I hope you find one you like.

Well I ordered a Boraii to try out. It was cheap enough. $18 shipped. I’ll probably order a Mika and a PJ holster as well and compare all 4. I figure I will probably spend about a 100 bucks on trying to find the perfect pocket holster for a tool that could save my life someday.
I think its worth it.

Groo here
Try a remora or a sticky...
Cheep to buy,can hold more than one model.
doubles as an inside holster.
Does not "hide the gun" just looks like a billfold..
I carried my Shield in one in the back pocket ,with a long tailed shirt
etc to cover the grip.
Was suprised how comfortable.

Some bona fide craftsmanship here:
Pocket Holsters

– Pocket Concealment System Inc

Never bought from this vendor as I don't pocket carry much. Then it's in an Uncle Mike's or just Mexican carry.

I really like my FIST Kydex pocket holster for my Kahr PM-9. I would highly recommend it for your BG.

Try a Mika.
I have carried my 649 in a Mika pocket holster for years. I have had no concerns or disappointments at all. I cannot imagine being more comfortable with anything else. I have given away several other ones that brought less pleasure.

So far from everything I read seems to suggest that the Mika holsters are the best for small revolvers but not as popular with the semi auto pistols.

Have you given any thought to appendix carry with that rascal? I carry mine like that, and find it’s my preferred way to conceal it.

Yes I have. And what I’d like to try is mostly pocket carry in a holster and occasionally iwb carry when needed. Depending on clothing and for more versatility. When I finally nail down what works for a pocket holster, I’ll start searching for the right waistband holster.

Well I got a Boraii trigger guard holster delivered and so far I’m a little disappointed. The part that covers above the trigger is way too wide. Really no different than my Nemesis holster. Even tho that’s only the one part other than the trigger cover that touches the gun, it adds bulk. Another thing I don’t like is the wing. It’s too straight and rigid and it extends past the mags baseplate so it looks larger than the gun by itself. Also it causes it not to be shaped squared like a wallet or phone. And lastly you really have to make sure you drag the gun out at an angle or the sharp hook part won’t catch.
Looks like I’m moving onto the the Mika and PJ to try out.
Two down and two more to go.

Glad to hear it works for you. Maybe yours is made a little better?
I’ll try it out a few more times before I return it.

Well I ended up getting the Mika. Been using it for the last 5 months. I like it a lot. Not the thinnest but it always stays in the pocket when drawing and it’s easy to reholster just by dropping the pistol inside my pocket.
