Brauer Bros Fit
I found a black leather Brauer Bros holster in mint condition; it is marked H39. I found one chart that had a H39-3 for a K Frame size 3" barrel gun. This looks smaller than a K Frame fit. Does anybody have a chart showing fit for H39? Thanks

Brauer Brothers H39 will fit any S&W "I" or "J" frame revolver with 4" barrel. Model 30, Model 31, etc.

It may be interesting to you to know that Brauer Brothers got a patent
on the snap-on snap-off feature in 1928. Previous to that time a lot of
makers had a strap around the holster but they did not have snaps. If
I remember correctly Brauer was the only maker who could use the snap
on snap off strap around the holster for 17 years after 1928.

I have had some Brauer's that had name on snaps; were they older?

That's a good question, but I don't know the answer. If turnerriver reads
this thread he probably knows.

I looked through my little collection and found this old Brauer Brothers
with the printing on the snap. The printing says Brauer Bros. MFG. Co.
St. Louis. It was made for a K Frame with 2" Barrel.

I have a few Brauer Bros. holsters with the writing on the snaps, but they are currently stuffed in a tub, unless I sold them at the Reno, Nv. show last month. I'll try to find them and see what models they are. In the meantime, wife just ordered shoe hangers on Amazon to put the holsters into so I can find them easier.

We used to sell Brauer Brothers and I can say for sure that the snaps did not have the printing on them after about 1972, give or take. They may have stopped before that, but that is when we became their local dealer. Another store was their dealer, and we became their dealer when that store went out of business. My guess is that the snaps with the printing on them stopped long before then.

I found my list of the Brauer holsters. First is an HE43, a brown bsk. weave; next is H E30 BL, brown bsk. weave; next is H42, plain brown, and last is H9, plain brown. All have writing on the snap, and I don't have a clue what guns go into them.

Igiveup - I did a little bit of research and found the following info. Don't
go to the bank with it, because even Brauer Bros. say their charts are
only 90% accurate. So, just think of them as clues.
Your HE 43 should fit an S&W 2" Chief.
HE 30 should have dash 5.5, 6 or 7. For Ruger Blackhawks.
H 42 S&W 6" models 10, 12, 18, 19, 64 & 67.
H9 Colt's New Service with 6" barrel.
Cruiser1 - The same chart shows H39 as fitting S&W 3" Chief.

I haven’t been as present lately as I’d like to be.
Phil, I’m glad you’re here, I strongly suspect everyone is glad you’re here.
Snaps and other hardware are usually helpful in dating holsters. Heiser used one snap before WWII and another after as shown in their catalogs. I can’t say for sure when Brauer stopped using the name snaps but I suspect it was in the 1950’s. Manufacturers are always looking for ways to cut costs, when the older snaps were used up a cheaper one would be ordered.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Phil.
Regards,

Thanks Phil. I will write the information on tags and attach to each holster. I didn't realize that they were so old. All are in extremely nice condition. I may have sold one in Reno lat month, but will check for sure.
