Trick For Working With Chicago Screws
I have a belt that uses the Chicago style screws to hold thing together. They will loosed from time to time and seem to want to pull through the leather when tightening them.
I found some small washers in my tool box and they fit perfectly. I out one on each end of the screws and put some clear nail polish on the threads. They are much easier to tighten now and don't enlarge the holes in the leather.

A small amount of clear Nail polish or weak thread locker works well too. Don't think I have EVER had a chicago screw not open up eventually. The weak locktite is what I use.

I was hoping for a tip on how to get them apart. I made a Chicago Screw Vise out of couple pieces of flat strap steel. Each end is drilled and tapped to act as clamp. Top has 5/8 “ hole in center. This is access for screw driver
The bottom is shimmed with a lead strip, that’s what contacts female end.

Totally agreed. The screws will eventually work loose. And, clear nail polish works just fine.
