Default Surprising quality in a 1791 holster at 20% the cost of a Southern Trapper

I bought a Korth Mongoose in June and also ordered a Southern Trapper holster w/shark trim for $249 with a 4-6 week delivery. In the mean time I bought a 1791 off a rack for $49.

Surprisingly, after using both, the 1791 is the more comfortable, provides more coverage, and the leather much thicker. Seemingly twice as thick.

Will the 1791 last?

I have a couple of 1791s and like them both. Both are pancake, one for a S&W CSX and one for SD9. The CSX was easy to break in but the SD9 was hard. I ended up using Ethanol to soften/slick up the leather and it's almost perfect now. I do have a Galco Combat Master for a 1911 Commander and the Galco is a step up in quality, but I can't say anything bad about the 1791s for the price.

I recently picked up a 1791 pancake for 2" J frames. It seems to be a well made holster. Some of the decorative border lines weren't very deep but that seems to be the only drop off from Bianchi and Galco quality. The leather is noticeably thicker than my Galcos and at least the same as on my Bianchi 5BH models. Mine was also $49. I am happy with my purchase and so is my Model 60.

The only gun I own that I still needed a holster for is my Model 36. A few weeks ago I was at my LGS, and he just happened to have a 1791 made for a J-frame, and it was only $44, so I bought it. It seems to be extremely well-made, and the gun fits it perfectly.

Next time I need a holster, that's a brand I'll certainly consider.

I have a 1791 paddle holster for my S&W 640-1. I was a bit skeptical considering the price, but I bought it anyway. The leather is pretty thick and stiff. Between the friction of the leather and the revolver and the adjustable tension screw, that 640 is not going to fall out under any circumstance. For a paddle holster, it actually pulls the revolver tight against my side, making it a good for concealment under a winter coat.

I have multiple 1791 holsters for SIG 226(MK25). One for me (LH) and 2 for my boys (RH). We like them . They are sturdy comfortable and shipped same week ordered.

I’m a Kramer man but picked up a new 1791 owb for generic 4 inch K frame type guns. It’s very nice and fits the bill for model 10,gp100,686. Very very pleased with it

Default 1791 holsters

Recently I've bought several 1791 holster for my pistols.

They're the Ultra Custom model with Memory-Lok Technology.

This model is loosely pre-shaped out-of-the-box.

You heat up the holster then do the final shaping with your pistol in it to the degree of hold you want.

I think they're well made too.
