1911 OWB
Needing recommendations for a slim profile 1911 OWB holster. Lost a bunch of weight and IWB is no longer comfortable.

Simply Rugged. Carried a 1911 on a horse, dirt bike, and ATV. Totally secure and out of the way on the ranch for 20 years.

Milt Sparks and matching belt. It's very comfortable and carries tightly to your waist. Cost a little more, but worth the price of entry.

I've used a Tagua belt slide and a Galco AV212 Avenger for years. I have no idea if either is still in production, but they are well made and have held up very well.

I did a writeup on a Lobo gunleather one off - you might like it. It is kind of like a belt slide but for between the belt and trousers.

Kramer leather makes excellent holsters but it's going to take you about 6 months to get one.

I carry a 4506, which is similar in size/weight to a 1911, in a Dom Hume JIT holster on a Wilderness Instructor belt.

When I lost weight I had to start carrying ANOTHER 1911 on my left hand side to shim my pants enough to keep them from falling off. Might try that...especially if you only have one 1911 now.

Another vote for the Askins Avenger pattern.
If you prefer an 'FBI' cant to vertical, any of the various 'pancake' style. Galco 'Combat Master' or equivalent.

I am a fan of the Lobo Gun Leather combat classic. Simply rugged and El Paso Saddlery are also top drawer in my experience. And Bamabiker on this forum makes a great 45 auto holster

DeSantis Avenger rides higher than some and is straight up draw. Quality cowhide with a tension device. Midway has these in stock at a good price.
The Avenger pattern is an old classic that is still relevant today. Good for everyday carry, with easy concealment. Works as a range/base competition holster.
Newer renditions have more leather left and right in the elongated belt tabs, making them a bit more bulky. Maybe more comfy, however I've never had a problem with an Avenger on a proper stout belt.

Picked up another gently used Avenger holster recently marked Dillon Leather. Presumably sold by Dillon Precision in Scottsdale, AZ.

Got this for about $50 in December at a big box store. 1791 BH1. MSRP on their site has gone up to $59. Available in various colors. It passed my "upside-down-shake-test" and is very comfortable.

Have several DeSantis Speed Scabbards for both semis and revolvers....
The one for 1911s is excellent open top with screw adjustable draw tension...pulls in high and tight.
The DeSantis Mini Scabbard rides just a little lower and also has the tension screw for security without a strap or thumbreak.
Available in black or brown and can be found for about $80...no 6 month wait...
When I carry the Commander OWB I use the Speed Scabbard....
...also OP...did you ever decide on a gun???
Bob

Desantis is usually the first I look at. Often found on sale/closeout for even better deals.

Full size/compact 45 acp or 9 mm?
For full size 1911's US GI (my Ithaca 1943), S&W Model 745, Glock 21 Gen 4, 45 acp I prefer my Galco Fl 212, ride high there is a cant, needs stiff (Galco for me) belt. OK for Concealed with a minimal print.
For the smaller guns I like the SafariLand GLS (Grip Lock System), secure, rides high on Galco stiff belt holds any of the large frame 45's as well as the S&W M&P Compact 2.0, 39-2 and other 9mms.
Comfortable in car or walking, medium printing.

With the caveat of “this ain’t for everybody” haha (of course, few quailty holsters are, anyway, right?)
Milt Sparks will (I believe - they still did within the last couple of years) still craft by-request their “Roadrunner”‘model, aka their “old-style 60TK” for a short list of pistols. They offer a high-riding 60TK as a cataloged item, but the Roadrunner was, for me, the better OWB choice for a 1911. It rides high with a strong forward cant. Comfortable and concealable. If they made them for more than just 1911s I’d have one for every handgun I own.

Based on several recommendations from Faulkner about custom made holsters I've reached out to Nixon Leather in Alliance, Nebraska and he's currently making me a holster to my personal preference at about the same price I'd pay for a Galco production holster.
Here's a OWB for a 5" 1911 he recently made accented with a Nicotene Warthog inlay and Mahogany speckled airbrush finish!

I like my We the People Leather Independence but use a Yaqui Slide (with sweat shield) type the most.

Many have recommended the Askins Avenger style and I concur. Mine is from Kramer. They call their model the vertical scabbard. Their regular belt slide is excellent too. Pricy and there is a wait as mentioned but well worth it in my opinion. The Sparks Roadrunner is awesome too. I thought discontinued but maybe special order ? And Rosen (shown with Sig) is excellent too. And as noted above you can’t go wrong with DeSantis speed scabbard if you want to save on cost.

Nixon Leather has been doing all my holster work for a few years now. Custom work doesn't happen over night, but his backlog waits have never been unreasonable. He has a FB page with lots of images of his work.

My go-to is Bullard Leather. Moderate pricing but extremely high quality. A variety of leather colors & styles.
I usually get their Bodyguard model with the leather flap protecting the body from the hammer spur. A lot of brands don't offer this, which is crazy, IMO. I also opt for a lined holster, which is gentler on a blued finish.
Bullard is just a first-class shop, IMO.
