This revolver started life as a Victory model. Probably 4". Possibly manufactured around 1942. Shipped to the UK. Somewhere after the war it was surplussed by the Brits, brought back to the US, cut to 2" and chromed. It appears to be originally made for .38spl because the cylinder dimensions are too small for .38S&W.
Here are the details
s/n V195xxx all matching (barrel, frame, cylinder and extrator)
FIVE screws with pinned barrel
~2" without forward extractor rod support
Chrome finish some wear and pitting. I'd give it a 70%.
British proof mark on cylinder. (BNP under crown)
Action is tight no forward/backward play. Good lock when cocked.
Trigger crisp and clean
The S&W logo is only on the right side
"Made in U.S.A." is stamped on the frame's right side.
The cylinder is 1.57" long.
The barrel, including forcing cone is 2.33"
Individual chamber diameter is ~0.38" rear, ~0.36" front.
Cylinder thinnest wall width is ~0.08"
Scratched on the right side are initials "JFC" (not mine nor the previous owner's)
Scratched on the left side are "JFC + FJF" "5-17-77"
Usual markings on frame under grips, but no US military markings on top strap.
Grips are diamond checkered with medallion
