I've had a GPS device for about a year, and love it. The only problem I have is that the mounting device for a vehicle is basically a suction cup that you apply to the windshield. This is messy and unwieldy. I'd rather mount it in other locations (out of the sun) - in a shady spot on the dash, the console, or the transmission hump.
I've found the solution, and I thought I'd share it with you. This device is nothing more than a fabric shot-filled doughnut, with a smooth plastic center. You apply the GPS suction mount to the center part, and then place it wherever you want. The base of the doughnut is rubber, and doesn't slide around. It's heavy enough to stay put, too.
Here's a pic of the device:
And here's the GPS mounted on it:
Problem solved. I bought this one at Cabella's, but they may be available elsewhere. About $20, and well worth it.
Cabella's was nice enough to offer me an extended warranty for $5, but I declined. What can go wrong with this???
It's a
doughnut for crying out loud!
