My wife LOVES onions and garlic but they do not "like" her.She has recently discovered that wild garlic picked out of the yard is very good and does not make her sick like the store bought or domesticated variety.Any body here eat wild herbs and are familiar with the wild varieties of garlic or onion? Do you have any recipes containing these wild herbs?

Get a book called "Stalking the Wild Asparagus" by a guy named Euell Gibbons. It's been described as the forager's Bible and I know from experience that it has a lot of information including re wild onion and garlic, watercress, dandelions, etc., etc., etc.

This should be available through Barnes & Noble, Amazon, etc.

I suggest you google "ramps/wild leeks" and go from there. They are fantastic with burgers or a beef dinner. When fresh they are ivory white and you just dip them in water and then salt, take a bite of burger and a bite of ramp. You are a little late for them right now as they first appear in early spring. They are usually dug in clumps in mountainous or wooded areas. Asheville, N.C. has a ramp festival in the spring. Ramps are like a garlic onion cross and they can be purchased on line but rather expensive to do so.

When I'm out at the rancho in the fall, I love campfire baked potatos. They are even better with the Drummond Wild Onions that grow all around the place. The only problem is that they're very small.

haveing mowed a wood lotwith of wild onions u can smell them after wards about the size of your hand in clumps an yes you can dig them up an use them but smaller than store bought thin an just as good the rest i dont know about they grow wild here year after year

Thanks for all the help !! I will look up the book and try to find a copy.My wife just prepared a handful of wild garlic with some sliced turkey and she loved it! She had been told years ago by her father that the wild varieties were poison. Why do people start things like that?

I pick the ones with pink flowers. My book says, the ones with white are not good. They look about the same to me, except for the color.

I would second the ramps suggestion. If you need some I can send you some come spring time. I transplanted some this year so I'll let you know how that goes, and maybe you can do the same.

Jeepjeepwhat,I would love to have some! Just let me know how much and hope I can remember when they come in.Thank you very much for the offer!!:D:D:D
