What is the name of the very brave woman who brought took this son of a pig down? I think Congress ought to pass a private bill making it possible for her to be awarded the equivalent of the Medal of Honor. I don't know how much ammo the good doctor had left at the time, but she took four rounds in close combat to save the lives of American soldiers. If this was not a case of one who "distinguishes himself or herself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in action against an enemy of the United States" I don't know what would be.

The problem with folks like jag312 is that they will attempt to turn any event, even a tragedy like this, into a personal attack on a man whose only crime that I can determine is that he won the election by 365 to 173 electoral votes without the help of any hanging chads.

Oh please, yourself. Scoundrels have legitimately won US elections before, so this isn't the first time. You pooh-pooh that anyone might suggest that American military men and women can't be trusted with personal weapons. No one would ever suggest that, now would they?

RALEIGH — In March, the commander of the U.S. Army’s Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., sent a memo ordering all soldiers in that company to provide a list of registration numbers and the location of any privately owned weapons they possessed. The commander also demanded to be informed whether the soldiers had a concealed carry permit and, if so, what state had issued the permit.
 
Three lies were reported yesterday. 1st, some "offical" reported this wasnt a "hate crime". 2nd, the shooter had just converted to islam. The cousin of the shooter called sheppard smith and said he had was always muslem. 3rd, he was reported killed. CYA!
We must not offend these people! Next. How many people here seen the thread that dissapeared that was a video of our president defending and praiseing islam?
Next. Why are we afraid to outright state that we are at war with islam when they state in their "religion" that their purpose is to either convert or kill all infidels?
This killer was given four years of free medical schooling. His cousin said he made six figuers a year as a major?? His cousin claimed he was a "fine american"! Other officers that knew and worked with him claim he was very vocal against the war, unhappy, and given a bad review. Yet, he still was a active officer? Just who above him was afraid to hurt his feelings?
We ask kids to join the service with prospects of dieing for us and our country. Yet we cant trust them to buy a drink. We teach them to shoot, keep our guns in the armory, but wont let them buy one to carry to their house or barracks to defend themselves!
This country is becomeing one big insane asylem!

FORT HOOD, Texas – The top commander at Fort Hood is crediting a civilian police officer for stopping the shooting rampage that killed 13 people at the Texas post.

Lt. Gen. Bob Cone said Friday that Fort Hood police Sgt. Kimberly Munley and her partner responded within three minutes of reported gunfire Thursday afternoon. Cone said Munley shot the gunman four times despite being shot herself.

Officials said Munley was in stable condition.

Cone said, "It was an amazing and an aggressive performance by this police officer."

Cone also said he was inspired by a woman who helped carry a wounded victim and used her blouse as a tourniquet, then later realized she'd been shot in the hip.

The families of the deceased are in my prayers. I also pray for the wounded to fully recover. As for the muslim freak who committed this atrocity - well, I won't pray for him. Forgive me Lord, but I hope vengeance will be yours on that miserable, despicable SOB. I hope he gets a fair trial and a speedy execution. As for police sergeant Munley, I could not praise her high enough. Well done, lady. You went above and beyond the call of duty on this one. I wish you a speedy recovery, a long life, and all the accolades a grateful country can bestow. You really earned your spurs on this one.

Being an agnostic, I don't pray for or against anybody. I certainly have good wishes for his victims, and boundless bad wishes for Hasan. I hope he's suffering and continues to do so, like that wretch who set himself on fire after trying to blow up the Glasgow(?) airport a few years ago.

I just hope that his obvious hate crime motive is taken into account if he survives to go to trial. If not, then the term simply has no meaning. He needs to be hung.
 
If he recovers, I wonder if they'll make him see a PTSD counselor?

I heard Judge Nappy on Fox last night. The Good Judge said if the Army wants him executed, they need to turn the prosecution over to the State of Texas. In the Judge's words, Texas executes "about one a week." I think Texas carried out an execution earlier this week, their 20th of the year.

I bet no matter how the Army prosecution goes, Texas will demand their own trial, since it was a civilian Texas officer who brought him down, and as I understand it, one civilian Texas officer was one of the dead.

Hanging is too quick. Vlad Tepes, the national hero of Romania, had a solution when the Ottoman Turks (who were Muslim) invaded Romania. His solution involved a not too sharp stick.
 
Several random thoughts, reading through this thread:

1) The first part of jag312's statement is entirely correct. The military really doesn't trust its members with weapons. As an example, look at the USARAK ban on soldiers carrying a weapon in AK (unless you're in the bush). Every other law abiding citizen can carry, but not members of the Army assigned there.

2) Majors don't make 6 figures, as any publicly available pay chart will tell you. (Maj = O4)

3) What happened to the other two shooters? Did they go the way of "John Doe #2" from the OKC bombing?

4) I was manning a desk all last night and we had both CNN and Fox on. CNN ran a graphic all night long stating that one of the gunman's wapons was a semi-automatic. The technology's been around since at least 1900 in a pistol, so it's really a non-issue.
