Mauser 71/84 11mm ammo
I was wondering if anyone still makes ammunition or at least the reloading supplies for the 11mm Mauser ammo for the Mauser 71/84 rifles?

LEE makes 43 Mauser dies if that's the same (I think it is!)
I've read that you can remove a tiny bit from the rim diameter (5 or 6 thousanths ") of 45-90WCF brass and use it as 43 Mauser. Don't know if it is a bit shorter than the real stuff or not but it supposedly works fine with the loads recommended for these older rifles. It likely reforms easily in the FL sizer die. Never tried it myself.
Starline makes new 45-90wcf,,no 43 Mauser or 11mm Mauser though.

in the past from "Ye Old Western Scrounger".

And remember, the 71/84 has a tubular magazine. Use the flat pointed bullets to prevent chain discharges in the magazine.

Just since you brought it up, here's my 71, serial # 696X, with a PERFECT bore visually. But I'm showing it here again so you can see this original box of German paper patch cartridges that are flat points for the 71/84, and is marked that way on the box. My dad bought it from a guy walking out of a gunshop in Oakland, Ca. in the late '50s.
Let's get a look at yours sometime, Dave. And good luck with the ammo. We never shot this one. BTW. Mine has markings that mean it was sent somewhere in South America as surplus at one time. Info isn't in front of me at the moment.

More info on my Model 71 Mauser. Markings mean it was made at Austrian State Firearms Factory (Oesterreiches
Waffenfabrik Geschellschaft)which later became Steyr. It has the crown marking of Wilhelm 1, king of Prussia at the time. I got this info from a guy on a Mauser forum a long time ago.

Welcome to the BPCR shooter's fraternitiy! I shoot both my 71 and my 71/84 with Buffalo brass, made from .348 brass, and with the rim rebated by thinning the circumference. Once you have the brass, it lasts forever. I shoot cast lead flat-point bullets dropped from a Lee mold, at 385 grains. Use a drop tube to get 70 grains of FFG into the cases, put in a cardboard wad, a waxed or Walters wad, and thumb-seat the bullet down to the wad and powder leaving no air gaps. I never resize after the first sizing, since most of my shooting is single-shot; if you want to load all 8 rounds into the 71/85, be prepared to crimp the bullets slightly. It attracts alot of attention from the guys with poodle-shooters at the line.

The best current production mould is RCBS 44-370. It works for either the 11.15x60R Mauser or .44-77 Remington. I believe there is also a very good option available from Accurate Molds Accurate Molds: Custom Bullet Molds The 44-385M on the linked page. The last custom mould I ordered from Accurate was in my hands on the 7th day from the order!
