BRNO 8MM Full Stock Sporter Carbine. Anyone Familiar With These?
I have this elegant little BRNO Mauser. It's 8MM, has a butterknife bolt, express sights, and those classic european swivels. It's not the most common gun and even though it ain't a S&W I thought I'd ask you folks if you're familiar with this high quality little sporter. Oh, yeah. And it has great double set triggers.

I had a sporterized version of one about 20 years ago. It was reworked into a 308; had a marvelous 2 stage military trigger, and like a fool I let it get away from be for some other transitory bauble....

The former Jackson Arms store in Dallas had one for sale. I don't think anyone bought it before the store closed some years ago.
I handled it and felt that it was weighter than similar Mannlicher-Schonauers, one of which I owned, also in 8mm.
The one I saw was probably in their ZG-47 series.
It seemed very well made. I can only guess that it didn't sell because it felt so heavy for its size and the lack of knowledge about CZ rifles here. Also, many people don't like the 8X57mm cartridge. It's underloaded in the USA, as you presumably know.

I have one similar to yours except mine does not have the recoil pad and does have a square bridge and claw mounts. Mine was made in 1947 and is pretty close to a model that Brno made before the war. As I recall there was a small redesign after the war perhaps done by Josef Jelen or possibly Otagar Galas. This was after serial number 23000 when the square bridge was introduced. They are referred to in the west as model 21 or 22F (Mannlicher) but I think the factory used the 721 and 722 designations. This information is out of an old notebook of mine and so may be a little incorrect.
They are hoot to shoot and when you set the trigger you better be prepared because things will get active fairly quickly when you touch the other trigger.

They are fine rifles.
And you'll never feel the same way about a single set trigger ever again once you've shot her.
And isn't she beautiful just posing for that picture alone?

I love those little Mannlicher stocked carbines! Sako used to make one that was the slickest handling little carbine I've ever held. Thanks for sharing your BRNO

Good looking. Blond, checkering w/nice set of triggers. What more could you want? The accessory on the butt stock looks like a silver, cameo picture frame of sorts.
So much for my wild guess, what is it?
I've never been a rifle guy, yet I've always been drawn to the double set triggers. Years ago in my youth there was one in a wildcat cartridge that I had my hopes set on, but alas t'was not to be.

You described that ornament in the stock right on, except I don't think it's silver. I guess someone had their wife's or girlfreind's pic. in there at some time, who knows.

There is nothing more classy than double set triggers on a bolt rifle.

Nice rifle! Looks like a BRNO Model 21.
Gotta love those DSTs and shotgun trigger guard.
8mm is a favorite of mine. Very under rated in the US I think.
