I bought a Leupold M8 4x fixed power scope from a guy at a show on Saturday. I gave $90. I also bought a set of rings and a mount and put it on my Guide Gun. Unfortunately I have reached the stage in life where the peep sight that I had on it no longer worked for me. Do any of you have any experience with this scope? It looks like it will work nicely on this gun. I was looking for a 2.5x but this one was a bargain and it was available...

I can't think of a better choice for a guide gun, other than a Leupold 2.5. Like you, however that $90 price point tips the scale. I don't think they make a 2.5 anymore that isnt EER for handguns or paralex regulated at 75 yards and has the thick crosshairs-they call it a shotgun scope. If you could find onee of the older ones , now that's the ticket!!

I have one just like the one you just bought, that I had on a .35 Whelen for quite a while, then I put it on a couple of different 12 gauge slug guns. It has now been sitting on my 12 gauge slug rifle for the last 8 or 9 years. It has held up beautifully over the past 19 or 20 years that I have had it.

You got a smokin' deal on it, aand it has the nest warranty around if anything goes wrong with it, even if it's your fault. Leupold's service is the best i have ever experienced. Period. I own a lot of their scopes, in fact with one or two exceptions, they are all I own or will own.

That should be a great scope and I actually prefer a 4x fixed scope over a variable scope for short and medium range guns. I think I get used to using it on the same magnification all the time so I become a better shot.

I'm not a big fan of the forward mounted Scout Scopes and like a low power traditional scope better.

I agree with the advice the above poster is giving you. My experience mirrors his almost exactly. After having bad experiences with other manufacturer's scopes over the years, I have used Leupold scopes exclusively for the past 35 years. Never had a Leupold fog up, fail to hold zero or any other problem. I look for Leupold scopes at gun shows and on auction sites, I like to pay about 50% retail for a used scope in VG to EXC condition. Sometimes you have to be patient, but there out there and can be had for your price. You got a GREAT deal on you Leupold, I hope you get a lot of good use out of it. I just put a 4X Compact Leupold on my Ruger 77/44 .44 Magnum, it is going deer hunting in southern Indiana on opening day this weekend.

I've had am M8 4X Leupold for nearly 15 years, and it has been on several barrels on my TC. 7X30 Waters, 7 TCU, and 44 Mag, where it presently is. Never a moments problem with it.

I have several M8 4X scopes, excellent, excellent basic scopes and for the price you paid, even better!

I, too have one just like that one. Bought it from a forum member. Not only a great scope, you can't beat Leupond's lifetime warranty.

I have a Leupold M8 4X scope on my Ruger Mini-thirty, it is excellent for low light conditions; I use it for walking up wild hogs down here in the Florida swamps. You got a great price for the scope and if you have any problems with it, send it back to Leupold for "lifetime warranty repair". I own five Leupold scopes and have never had a problem with any of them, plus they are made in the U.S.A.

+1! Add a good post and crosshair reticle and you're set!

I have one with the tapered reticle. Bought it used on either GB or AA. Had it mounted on my Rem700 Classic in 35 Whelen. Since it has a 33mm bell we used low mount rings. So far it works great! Not sure how old it is, but the glass is very clear. I like it and it looks great on that rifle.

Great price and scope. The M8 series are the only non-Vari-X III scopes that have the Multi-Coat 4 lenses. You WILL like it!
