I went with the entire family today. We had a good day.

In my weakened condtion, I somehow managed to stumble along for a full 4 hours. Because I fear a fall or a good thumping on my incision, I was being extra careful of the idiots who swing long guns around, or who look like their dancing in the aisles. Also those with huge butts on one side and a sack full of crap sticking out one side.

Gun show attending guys are worse (much worse) than women in WalMart. They have absolutely no spacial awareness. If they drove as poorly as they walk in crowds, their cars would be totaled in minutes.

But boy did I see a bunch of nice guns. They seem to be coming out of the woodwork. One of my current fads is 3" N frames. I have no idea why. But I sure saw a bunch of 629s and 657s in that barrel length. I was sorely tempted by an early 4" M29 with cokes, priced at $800. Our occasional poster Blake had a nice set of Cokes on display. He was around $300 on them, I think. It would have been a bargain.

I swallowed any pride I still had and bought a dozen .50 cal cans. Had to borrow the sellers cart to get them out to the car. Some pretty good, too. I also bought 2 dozen CR123 batteries (Panasonic) blister packed.

I found a set of very nice N combats. They're going on my Lew Horton 44 Special.

Reloading components seem to have achieved a price break. I found boxes of ancient Nosler partition bullets. Old boxes, but I don't think they shrink or swell over time. Bought my grandson a set of dogtags. He was really pleased.

I passed on a gun I really wanted. It was a Browning B78 in 7mm Magnum. It even had the impossible to find swivels. Don't know why I didn't buy it. I'll probably be kicking my self for years.

A lot of ammo for sale. And the gougers were out in full force. The Federal Bulk 22s that sell locally for $13.47 were all priced at $25. Guess its just how much of a premium you've got to pay to have someone else visit the crowded aisles of WallyWorld for you.

I am so glad you were able to get out and take in the show. Sounds like the family went along to pick you up in case you went down.

Holy cow, you can stay at a gun show for 4 hours?:D:D
I drove two hours one way today at a gun show, and was home in 4 hours:D
I did buy 2 bags of beef jerkey though;)

Dick,

Glad you could made it out and doing 4 hours is impressive so soon after your ordeal. But then again, they may have been "chemically induced".... ;)

Great report from a different perspective than I've experienced (and hope I don't have the "opportunity").

.... I was sorely tempted by an early 4" M29 with cokes, priced at $800.....

I'm afraid I would have been tempted with the above also.

Thanks for letting us hear from you and glad to know you're on the mend.

Take care....

Sounds like the family went along to pick you up in case you went down.

We used an overabundance of caution. In the first 15 minutes I had a few promises from friends to sit behind their tables if I became too tired. We hit the door at 9:00 and walked until 1:00. I was slow and refused to push myself. I really wanted to see the show.

And its a lot different when you enter as a customer instead of being a table holder. I took the family along to make it an outing. As we progressed my sons (and grandsons) gained confidence I wasn't going to keel over. They had more confidence in me than I had.

But I really love gun shows. And there are literally thousands of gun related items I "need". Most are arcane little things that will make my shooting, reloading, or collecting happier. An example is the dozen .50 cal cans. I'm going to box up all my factory ammo in the cans, sorted by caliber. Just something I've wanted to do for a long time. Worse, I've got a stencil cutter out in the garage. I plan on getting some colored paint and using it to label what's in each can. The color will designate factory ammo, or components, and by caliber, or reloads.

When you've got idle time, a sick mind dreams up all kinds of grand plans! :)

The problem I have with 50 cal cans, is that if you fill them with ammo, they are almost too heavy to carry.

I went to Tupelo today. It's only 4 hours one way instead of 11 hours one way to Louisville. I didn't think Berg would be there and feared I wouldn't have a place to rest. Anyway, Dick always gets the good ammo deals before I get there. Even though Tupelo is a much smaller (and closer) show than Louisville, I did manage to pick up a 4" P&R nickel 57 and four boxes of Winchester military .45 ACP ball ammo. Dick, it's good to see you're back at the shows. I may try Louisville again in the near future.

Glad to hear you're able to get out Mr. Burg! My sister took Mom out shopping a week or so ago. Mom had triple bypass just before yours. Mom said she made it to the back of the store and back to the front, and had to set down. So you did amazingly well at the show!

I may try Louisville again in the near future.

The next one is in late February. We're getting tables for that one and I'll let you know. The only problem I'm having is I've sold most of the gun I consider surplus. We'll be down to bartering trinkets and old belts. I'm not sure its more fun with a table, but you do have a place to sit.

Dick, glad to hear you're up and out and about....no fear, come Jan. at the OGCA you have a spot to set with us, as long as you like....Merry Chrismas

Good to see you and your family yesterday Dick.
For those who didn't see him, he was in a bit of a cranky mood, which I took to mean that he is back to normal.
The only thing I noticed out of the ordinary was that he didn't make fun of me any, but I attributed that to him being full of Christmas spirit. :)

Danggit, why couldn't they have scheduled this show for next weekend. I haven't been to the show in Louisville in years because it's always just before or after I take leave. We are flying home to Louisville Wednesday for 3 weeks. Thanks for the report, maybe in 6 years when I retire I can make a show or 10.

Bill
