With the vast breadth of knowledge on this board, someone has to know about old Erector Sets.
What would this thing be worth?

Thanks!

I saw two of these at a local flea market a few weeks ago. One was complete, with the case was in much nicer condition...nearly new, for 50 bucks. The other was missing the motor and possibly other items, with a less pristine case, for 30 bucks. Both were negotiable asking prices that I never questioned as I had only a nostaglic interest from a long ago childhood.

I doubt that today's children would have the foggiest idea what a erector set is, especially if it doesn't come with a keypad and require batteries.

These sets used to bring pretty good money.
However, as with many things the price has dropped a great deal on these in the last couple of years.
Without looking at it in person, I would say about the price that was posted above
You may want to get the make and model number and look on the auction sites and see what they have brought, not what they are asking for them.

They still make and sell them. I got one of the beginner sets for my Grandson for Christmas this year.

Ah, an A.C. Gilbert toy. ;)

I've read that Gilbert dabbled in magic and was a bit eccentric. Also, Gilbert was Lionel's major competitor...unfortunately, they didn't survive the changes in American lifestyle and tastes. :(

I know nothing of them, but some sets are far more valuable than others, and certain pieces in sets are more desirable than others too.

I suggest looking up what set you have- books on these things are sold online for $10-15 bucks. It may be well worth it...or not.

I bought two for myself a few years ago. ;) I remember playing with one like the one in the OP at my grandparent's house. It had been my uncle's. I have no idea what happened to it or what it might be worth.

Wow, the pics brought back some memories. My set may still be in the attic.

The value, as with most things, is in the rarity, completeness, and condition. Old Erector sets are pretty common. Yours seems to have a lot of the parts, and if the motors work it's a plus. But the condition of the case is pretty bad. I would estimate $50 on a good day. Yours would be a nice piece for someone wanting to complete a set who might be missing some of the pieces. Still a really cool toy! I love old and antique toys! A blast from the past, for sure!
