Agreed. "If" not for the many injuries who knows what numbers Junior would have put up. I remember a Home Run Derby where Griff "launched" quite a few to the farthest reaches, and sometimes out of a stadium. He had a perfect swing.
His name was never connected with performance enhancing drugs, ever more astonishing considering the 630 homers he hit.
A great player, just like his dad.

They should build a monument to Junior right across the road from Bonds house so he has to look at what a real baseball player has accomplished in the last 20 years!

20 Years in probably the worst era baseball has seen , KG jr has never had his name associated with performance enhancing drugs , criminal acts, or just being a jackass like so many others. In that time he has compiled a lot of good baseball , 13 all star games, 10 Golden Gloves and 5th alltime on the career homerun list among many others, and is a walk in favorite to the Hall of Fame.

Take away all the steroid enhanced players and Junior is the best player of his era statistically , he is already the best player of his era in the respect category , Seattle has called Safeco field "The house that Griffey built". Were he to play long enough to challenge the all time home run record everyone in baseball except for Bonds would be rooting for him.

Well done Junior....

Baseball needs to regroup , create some kind of legitimate substance abuse policy , create some form of revenue sharing and salary cap system so teams can't load up because the owners have deep pockets and buy the World Series. And find a way to reward players who not only excel in baseball , but conduct themselves as professionals and ambassadors for their sport.

It's fitting that the classiest slugger in the steroid era was the only one who never cheated.

It's weird. He only came back to the Mariners in 2009, but it feels like he's been back a lot longer than a year and a half. Looks like the old adage, "Time flies when you're having fun," really is true. Take care Griffey. Thanks for helping keep the Mariners around.

You know what, Junior, Edgar, Randy, and Jay made just about the most exciting baseball team around. Gah... How I miss the 90s era of M's baseball.

My favorite season was 95 ( i think that was the year we beat the Yankees) I still have the stubs from those games along with World Series tickets that we never got to use , those playoff games were what kept the Mariners in Seattle. I was involved in the building of the new Mariners Stadium as a Cost Control Estimator that was a laughable position at the time as everything was over Cost.

If you remember right though, there was no love lost with Griffey when he left, He was an Ego in the clubhouse that wasnt a good thing at the time. I have a Griffey signed Baseball and Plaque from his Rookie year. He was a great role model for the kids of the time.

No drugs, no gambling, no loose women, no "entourage", nothing. Nothing but talent and hard, hard work.

Most of Todays baseball "STARS", should have mandetory training on being cool and doing things right and having respect for the people giving you Ka-zillions of dollars. That, of course, would be a little movie about Junior.

It really is the next step in a man/woman's life when the physical talents fade the inevitable fade, and the mind and soul and core values of the person begin the really fun part of life, fading into legend.
