Why Colt 1905's?
The 1911 was available, and a better gun.
And smokeless powder cartridges had replaced the old 4 bore and 8 bore, and penetrated better in large animals. Recoiled less, too.
One gun on the TV show that I'd have changed was Marguerite's breaktop revolver. I think it was a S&W New Departure Safety Hammerless, but at times, the prop house sent over an Iver Johnson copy. And I think she had a Webley WP hammerless at least once. In one scene, where Druid priests disarmed her, she had a Webley MK III .38. Maybe the prop people used whatever fit her holster, if the ideal item wasn't available.
I'd have given her a S&W round butt M&P with four-inch barrel. But with walnut grips, not gutta percha, which breaks too readily. I think she'd have liked the gold grip medallions, too. Or, a Colt Police Positive Special in .38 Special. Same for a real woman on such a trip. But her .303 sporting rifle was a good choice, although the one on the show was probably a Parker-Hale with a Monte Carlo stock. That didn't appear until the 1950's. I guess they couldn't find a real .303 sporter from the time period. I've never handled one, either, just seen photos. They aren't too common now, although at that time they were frequently used. I think that most were left in, maybe destroyed by, the various African countries and in India. Val Kilmer did use one in, "The Ghost and the Darkness."
