Guns For The Lost World

Andy-

Why Colt 1905's? The 1911 was available, and a better gun.

And smokeless powder cartridges had replaced the old 4 bore and 8 bore, and penetrated better in large animals. Recoiled less, too.

One gun on the TV show that I'd have changed was Marguerite's breaktop revolver. I think it was a S&W New Departure Safety Hammerless, but at times, the prop house sent over an Iver Johnson copy. And I think she had a Webley WP hammerless at least once. In one scene, where Druid priests disarmed her, she had a Webley MK III .38. Maybe the prop people used whatever fit her holster, if the ideal item wasn't available.

I'd have given her a S&W round butt M&P with four-inch barrel. But with walnut grips, not gutta percha, which breaks too readily. I think she'd have liked the gold grip medallions, too. Or, a Colt Police Positive Special in .38 Special. Same for a real woman on such a trip. But her .303 sporting rifle was a good choice, although the one on the show was probably a Parker-Hale with a Monte Carlo stock. That didn't appear until the 1950's. I guess they couldn't find a real .303 sporter from the time period. I've never handled one, either, just seen photos. They aren't too common now, although at that time they were frequently used. I think that most were left in, maybe destroyed by, the various African countries and in India. Val Kilmer did use one in, "The Ghost and the Darkness."

The Colt 1905 looks more Edwardian-era than a 1911. :D
The same goes for the big bore dangerous game guns. I've been lusting after both of these things for a long, long time. The bigger the bore, the better it looks...on film. :p After all, you have to think that this was written in the time when cars were beautiful, men were well dressed (if they had the cash) and folks carried gold soverigns, large watches, mustache wax and Webley Bulldogs in their pockets.

Look'n good is half the battle. ;)

I'm not sure on the years but i should be close to 1919 for T-Rex a boys anti-tank rifle and some one to carry it. A SMLE in 303 for most things some type of single shot shot gun just for hunting. For hand guns a1911 or a Wedly I know you said No MGs but have to add that i would trade both rifles for a BAR
