Sorry for the delay. Here are some low quality photo's of the Pre-64 .300 Win. Magnum. They were taken with my iPhone, as that is the only digital camera that I have at the moment. I took some high quality images with my Nikon F6 35mm camera, but I will have to get them processed and scanned before I can post them. The rifle appears to be unfired, well not much if at all. The bolt-face is shiny and blued. This is the second Pre-64 .300 Win. Magnum that I have had, and both had blued bolt-faces. This one has the 2nd lowest serial number that I have seen on a .300 Win. Magnum, it is 550,XXX, which is strange because that is a 1962 serial number per Roger Rule, and these all supposedly shipped in 1963. Roger Rule's personal .300 is 553,XXX if I recall, although his is still in the red plaid box. Another anomaly that I have noticed is that most .300 Win Mag's are roll-marked "Winchester ®," whereas this one is "Winchester Trade Mark." Lastly, the bolt shroud is the earlier milled flat-sided type, rather than the later round-sided style typically found on 60's Model 70's. Late in production, Winchester decided it could cut costs by eliminating the milling step that flattened the side of the bolt shroud, and left them round.
So what do you guys think, shoot it? Dave Riffle told me to shoot it, but I am hesitant. It is the nicest Pre-64 I have ever personally seen/handled. It is truly mint, LNIB. I bought it with the intention of shooting it at the range, but after seeing it feel bad about spoiling a 47 year old time capsule, if you know I mean.
