Default Never judge a book by its cover

I didn't want to hijack the thread of odd guns being used by security, LEO's etc. I remembered when I worked for the armored car service an old timer, I believe he was about 70 named Pete, darned if I can remember his last name, who had after WWII worked in New York City as a bounty hunter. This guy for 70 was as tough as nails and was still a real tough customer, Jack Palance could have played him. But I remember the gun he carried doing that job, a 4-inch Smith M & P .38 Special. I remember asking him about that gun, even though he really was never much for conversation. He bought that gun new in 1956. At the time I was working there it was 1996. He had carried that gun for 40 years. We had to qualify annually there with whatever gun we had, and I remember the guys with the auto pistols picking on the old man about that .38. But he was a dead shot and was easily one of the best shots with the company. I wonder now what happened to Pete and that old .38 Special. Have I passed it in a gun shop? Did a relative keep it? It really makes you wonder.
