Default Candle Wood?????

Anybody here know of a wood that is/was called candle wood? My wife is reading a book that speaks of "candle wood". The only thing I can even think of is fat pine or heart pine that we once used to start a fire but did folks use this as a candle?

I believe it is one word " candlewood"

Any of several trees or shrubs yielding a usually resinous wood.
The wood of such a plant, burned for light or fuel.
The ocotillo.

Ocotillo Fouquieria splendens (DesertUSA)

Thanks! I did not know that Ocotillo was called candlewood!
I guess this book is somewhat fictional as the candle wood they speak of is on the east coast of the USA and I have not seen much Ocotillo on the east coast!!

Ocotillo, as noted, is sometimes called Candlewood. The Torchwood Tree of Florida is also sometimes called Candlewood. There is a Candlewood Tree, but it is found in South Africa! (All this found out by me via Google search.)

Yep, seems pretty much any unusually resinous wood can be locally called Candlewood.

Hope this helps.

Then I bet the wood they are talking about is fat pine. When I was younger we would walk old cut pine woods looking for large rotted stumps. You could then dig the resin filled heart out and get several pounds of wood that would light easily and give light or as we used it to start a wood fire with.
