Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, Booker's, Knob Creek, Wild Turkey 101...they all tickle my fancy. However, my favorite is a new, small batch Bourbon distilled in the Hill Country of Central Texas called Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey.


Before you sticklers get all riled up - Yes, it IS a Bourbon, in spite of what some might claim.

Tennessee's Jack Daniels Black.

The best bourbon is "Other People's"

Beam is always a good one, especially the black label. Also like Makers Mark and even Wild Turkey isn't bad. Jack is quite different from the real "sour mash burbons" but it will do in a bind. I like mine just on ice - lots of ice.

Jim Beam is my sentimental favorite .... got me through seven years of college although on some mornings after I suffered from a touch of bourbonic plague. I now have learned to appreciate the virtues of moderation. In fairness I see Jack Daniels and Jameson at the same level. In undergraduate psychology this is what is termed an approach/approach conflict.

Dickel is good, though technically a Tennessee whiskey and not bourbon. I'm enjoying a little Rebel Yell at the moment, to the point that I can't type well, but know that I can't.

I didn't see any 10 Hi mentioned here. Good thing. Never was a whiskey drinker myself. Tried 10 Hi once in my youth, never again.

About 40 years ago, I found a Bourbon named "Double Springs" made up around Bardstown. It was one of the best Bourbons I ever had. By the mid-1970's, it was gone from the market, reasons unknown.

Dick, do you or anybody from up around there remember this whiskey or know what happened to it?

For the 'rummies' on board , may I suggest taking a cruise with Sailor Jerry! 92 proof with a distinct cherry flavor. Makes Captain Morgan seem like bilge water!

Suggestion; mix with Vanilla Coke or Dr.Pepper.

My golfing buddy just gave me a bottle of Bulleit (a belated birthday gift) today at the golf course! Never drank it before. I was gonna wait a couple days to crack it open and give it a taste, but after reading your post, no way.

I think I'll go downstairs and pour myself a nice, neat glass.

That's really smooth bourbon. Not "hot" going down at all. Like the bottle, too. It has a throwback look to it. Woodford, Knob Creek, make room in the cabinet, there's a new kid in town!

I just now finished off a bottle of Bulleit. It is good stuff. My current favorite though is Woodford Reserve.

At my age, straight bourbon just doesn't go down smooth anymore.

I thought it got better with age.

I haven't read all of the posts here and since this was started quite a while ago, I may have even posted. Anyway, I recently tried something new that showed up at our local ABC store and this is Buffalo Trace. It is very, very good.

Iv'e probly drank enough whisky, moonshine and beer to float my house to the ocean, mostely in my younger years . I quit drinking, chewing copenhagen and most other bad habits, for 18 yrs. Had a heart atttack and about didn't make it, so now I am going to have a drink if I want one and enjoy it. I found Irish mist is a very satisfying drink and would recomend it to anyone who enjoys a smoothe drink out of the bottle. And it still comes in a cork bottle.

Ok, just tried this a couple hours ago. My buddy got it in Kentucky recently. A new one according to him. Jim Beam, Devil's Cut. 90 proof and very smooth and very good.

Sampled Devil's Cut last night, smooth and tasty and no bite.

Preferred is Very Old Barton. Also Woodford Reserve.

Wild Turkey 101 proof, Maker's Mark, Jim Beam Black Label, for the high end, but when I'm on a budget Elijah Craig and Evan Williams are pretty darn good too. So is green label Heaven Hill, but they don't sell it in the PA State Stores anymore (darn Commonwealth).
