BTW, pongids (gorillas) are apes, not monkeys. Some members here have confused them. And I think that Jay Leno has.
It's fun to speculate on which wild apes might have raised Tarzan, had he been real. They would be an unknown species, but closest to gorillas. Probably more upright.
I have seen a photo of a very large unknown ape or monkey shot many years ago in South America, I think in Brazil. Alas, they (explorers) did not take many photos, and DNA testing was unknown then. The animal attacked the men, who fired defensively. Hung up, it was as tall as the men.
I wonder how many unknown primates may still exist, apart from the Bigfoot/Sasquatch controversy.
