It's WAY off topic here
but I don't care. I'm proud, I'm excited.
After 7 long, arduously trying years...
The Wrench will graduate in December after a summer internship followed by another in the Fall.
Go me!
And when this current semester is over, I don't know I'm going to do first...spend a day on the couch reading trashy novels, or going to the shooting range.
ETA: Did I mention "magna cum laude" ???
Oh! I didn't move to the other forum section first...can a moderator please move this to the Lounge? I'm sorry for being in the wrong spot!

Congratulations! You have every right to be proud. You should treat yourself to a new gun (preferably an old S&W) and take it to the range as soon as possible! You can always read trashy novels at night...or even listen to them on CD on the way to the range!

Congratulations, and I second BuckeyeChuck: what's your degree in? It's a long, hard struggle: took my daughter about 6 years, three moves and two kids, but she still got her teaching certificate, and now she loves the work.

I will graduate with a Bachelor Of Music, EC-12 Teacher certification. This semester has been difficult because I took the only lab science that I could get into...and that was Chemistry and it is killing me! Until we get to the lab, and then everything makes sense.
The bad thing is, schools are cutting jobs more than ever, especially fine arts. The district where my children attend school is cutting 500 jobs (many of my friends find out today if they have a job in the fall or not). This is the same district that last time others in the area cut jobs, they added jobs. Things are not good. it's sad when your teenagers watch the news and ask not if you are going to be able to get a job after graduation, but with fewer teachers will they able to learn and be prepared for college, and will classes get even more crowded?
So I've taken extra coursework, not nearly enough for another degree, but enough to help me sit for and pass certification exam in another subject area, namely English, so that I can be more valuable to a school and more flexible in my job options. It's also one of the reasons I've set up an internship in church music leadership so that is an option for me.
As far as what I'm going to do...keep teaching and performing. Grad school is in the picture somewhere. Most likely in musicology.
A new gun is something I would love. Unfortunately, one of the kids is 16 this summer and while we've been having auto maintenance and how to use the clutch lessons, she's going to need driver's ed and her own car (translation: $$$$$). Driver's ed because Mom's rules of the road do not exactly line up with the great State of Texas' laws of the land.

Congrats!! That's a major accomplishment, especially with teenagers at home! And good on ya for making her learn to use a clutch. It's a life skill everyone should have.

It's very very sad that schools have cut the arts and physical education. When I and surely others went to school they were all required. We had PE from grade school all through High school every year. Music, art, shop and all of it. When my Daughter went through school she had almost none of it.
Good teachers are hard to find and do not get paid enough. Our County is slashing budgets again.

Don't worry. They'll keep dumbing college down if they need to. They teach stuff in college that our grandparents learned in high school.
