The only stuff I watch on network TV is the local news, and sports.
The shows are a steaming pile of garbage IMHO.

My wife is tired of me saying that, "There is nothing on", when she comes into the room.
I have seen all the "Sceens" of the new shows coming on for 2024 and there
is NOTHING that that pushes my button, or looks like worth watching.
Pretty bad when we sit and watch the CNN news, to pass the time, until something finally comes on.

where to start.
The "View" is where intelligent thoughts go to die.
We like "All creatures great and small".
90% of all television is mental pablum.

I don't like the current trend of every "action" show has to be a "diversity buddy show" and then run off into the weeds of every character's personal like.
The original Equalizer was great. One man with a few associates who came in from time to time. The movies were good. The new series sucked with all the extra "friends" and drama.
The same goes for SWAT. Good shoot-em-up parts but the rest of the show sucks. Why would the SWAT team be interrogating people about car theft. I've had friends who are SWAT officers and their description of work is either planning a raid, executing a raid, or training for a raid.
When I watched NCIS, most of after the first couple of seasons was total cringe. In one episode they drove to New Jersey to pick up a suspect and then drove him back to the Navy Yard to interrogate him. Or they had to go to Norfolk to investigate something that happened there because the largest Navy base in the world doesn't have an NCIS presence.
I like how in JAG the lawyers kept Berettas in their desks and got into gun battles.
Most TV is written by people who think that their audience is composed of idiots.
Shows that I do like? Downton Abby. The Gilded Age. Outlander.

I like the revived old threads. I keep searching for the original thread "Smith & Wesson introduces the model 39 automatic".
The internet forums do go back that far don't they?

Poor entertinment taste of many people today is the reason for so many bad shows on TV. You may not watch them and I may not, but many do. What other reason would there be for the proliferation and survival of terrible quality TV shows and movies?

Even if there is a good show on a regular network channel it is made unwatchable live because of certain ads. The worst are the one advertising the news team for your local area. I REALLY don't care who comes on at 11, or what you consider so important that I must watch your news item about it. Advertising the news is something that I still don't understand after 26+ years in this country. Doing it with the sound compression whacked up to cringe levels doesn't help. For the first few months it made me laugh, after that it had me reaching for the remote. The only real recourse is to record a show and watch the next day, fast forwarding the ads and saving 18 minutes of your life.

Old . . . new. As long as information is exchanged.
One forum I was on would lock threads that were woken up after six months and then you'd get a nasty gram from the mod.

Local news has gotten stupid. Every story has to have an "on the sport reporter" with "Action Cam." Recently, I saw a news report about the Target gift card scam and they had the reporter standing in the rain outside of a Target store. No interview with management. No real reason to be on site. Did it make the story better? Nope. If anything, the news is more diluted because they spend air time telling you about "Bob is at the location with the Action Cam." Then after Bob tells you about it, the anchors have to comment. Total BS.

I quit watching any mainstream network tv shows years ago. We now stream a few different networks and my wife picks out shows to watch. We do watch some shows that are sometimes interesting. Perfect murder and inside the factory. It something to watch and doesn’t involve politics or any of the woke agenda that is constantly being pushed on us. Oh and it’s mostly commercial free, for now anyway. Every new show that I see advertised seems to push the things that I don’t believe in so I quit watching. Same with any news. Quit watching all news a few years ago.

When we get home from work my fiance Jana and I will play about 3 hours of pickle ball with a group on Mondays and Thursdays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays I go to the gym and strength train then come home and do laundry, pay bills, clean, etc. Friday night Jana and I will usually go out to eat and then maybe see a movie or go bowling or something else. Saturday morning we play pickle ball with another group then go to lunch with some of the people. After that we run some errands or go shopping and come home and rest. Saturday night we might go out with another couple or stay home and rent a movie. Sunday we go to bible study then to church and then have a nice lunch. We might play some Sequence or Farkle then have Sunday night to watch TV. We use to watch Yellowstone and 1923 but those disappeared because of the writers strike so now Jana watches some Dateline and I tolerate it. I wish l liked some TV shows but I just don't, and I turn 65 in a couple months and retirement scares the heck out of me!

About 6 years ago when Dish yet again jacked up their rates I looked at what I watched for the week that I liked and it came to 6 shows out of about 70 channels. I then dropped Dish and sold my TV at a profit. My Kindle app shows that I have read 571 books in the past 5 years. Plus several I picked up at the library. Don't miss TV at all and feel that I am much better off having read all of those books than watching the boob tube.

I have a friend who has never had cable so he and his wife don't watch TV. They lead interesting lives. Art shows. Museums. Concerts. Blues clubs.
However, my sad life has me getting home from work at 9 PM so I just eat and stare at the idiot light.

There's a few (very few) shows I watch. I find myself watching a lot of shows on archeology and have learned a few things along the way. Like core samples show the land under the ice in Greenland and the Antarctic were lush grass lands once upon a time.
Funny how shows about Federal LEA often show them investigating stuff that really isn't in their jurisdiction.
Now that some posts below prompted my memory, can't stand: Ancient Aliens, Oak Island, any "reality" show and many of the idiots chasing ghosts.

Anybody remember the reality gun show "Sons of Guns" with Will Weaton?
His name might ring a bell because he's doing two life terms in Angola for rape of an underage girl, his daughter even came out and said he'd molested her too.
The Tommy gun I've posted with the violin case, my brother originally bought the gun personally from him in Louisiana.
Yeah, kinda creepy, I know.

Will Hayden not Will Weaton.
I watched a few episodes, it was Orange County Choppers but with guns and maybe not as much yelling.
I was surprised to learn that Pawn Stars is shot on a set. They can't shoot in the store for a couple reason. It would disrupt the business and Nevada laws prohibit photographing customers in a pawn shop.
I think that the only reality show that is close to real is Deadliest Catch. It's hard to script a sinking ship or a dying cast member.

Maybe its due to having an English mother, or due to living in England for 5 years as a child, or just being an Anglophile at heart, but I find myself watching Britbox more than anything else.

I have no idea what the worst show is. The only shows I watch are Bluebloods, Wheel, and Jeopardy. I do watch several reruns. Gunsmoke, Monk and Heat of the Night. Old movies. New stuff doesn't interest this old man.

I get tired of shows when they get preachy. MASH got preachy and I stopped watching it on a regular basis.
I want to watch shows to be entertained, not to have social justice jammed down my throat.

Popular: 1. Fox News 2. Ancient Aliens 3. Oak Island 4. Amazing Facts
Unpopular: 1. CNN 2. MSNBC 3. The View 4. Reality TV
Also popular: All the old clean shows that do not use the "F" word in every other sentence!

Worst? Any talent show..., Anything to do with Hollywood or TV personalities, Anything on Fox, Any of the syndicated cop/firemen/doctor/lawyer shows. Last but not least, any game show with one exception...at times Family Feud has entertained me when all else fails.

It's interesting that although this thread started 13 years ago, on this forum at least, there is still pretty much a consensus as to the quality of the majority of TV programming, and I concur wholeheartedly. It does make me wonder who watches the 'stuff' though.

My wife watches a lot of those cop/ detective shows . If you pay attention there is always some kind of liberal message . White supremacy , gun violence , immigration reform , etc. They know what they are doing .

Not a lot on TV I watch. It's called the Vast Waste land for good reason. But I do watch Fox News, Jesse Watters, etc. I get most of the news on talk radio.
