Worst Popular Rock & Roll Song Ever... Your Candidates Please
The other day I was in the cafeteria at work. They have a radio playing oldies. Normally, I like that...
However, the station seems to be in love with "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart. I remember when that was a huge hit, and I couldn't stand it then. Now ---
And no, I will not post a link to it!
Some folks have a great voice. For me, Rod Stewart has a grating voice.
I wanted to plug my ears with paper napkins.
So what's your candidate for the worst ever?

I deplore 'you light up my life' Debby Boone
And ' Achy Breaky Heart'
I heard a sage say 'Billy Ray is a terrible actor.'
I say 'another thing to keep him from singing!'

Any Doobie Brother's tune ruined by Michael McDonald's "stick a sharp pencil in my ears" voice.

I usually like John Lennon's work, but there was one album he did (Plastic Ono Band?) where his wife, Yoko, just screams for like four minutes - no words I can make out. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up...

Lets see,
"One eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater"
Any "Rock and Roll" Christmas song. I couldn't stand them when they first came out, age hasn't improved them.

I tell you, the "Classic Rock" station has ruined many songs for me. That is what is on all day at work, because it causes the least debate. They never play any songs from any album that were not "Top 40" in their time. I can almost set my watch by what song is coming out of the radio. It seems like they play the same list over and over. Same songs in the same order.

"The Night Chicago Died" and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" make me wish I had telepathic powers to change the station from across the room.

"Seasons In The Sun". I don't know if it's rock, but I know I'd rather listwen to my ex wife's voice than horrible song. Trivia note: Here's contrast. I believe that when "Purple Haze" was just out "Afternoon Delight" was the number one song.

anything by nickleback. at any live performance you can hear the crowd chanting "we want our nickles back"
anything Nirvana with the exception of smells like teen spirit, the only reason they broke out at all.
Perl jam, all albums should have included the drugs necessary to tolerate them.
Most of the metal of late leaves me kinda flat ... there are some good elements within, however the use thereof is highly unbalanced. I mean if your going to sing a song of rage, establish what your miffed about then unleash the wrath rather than bombarding us with said wrath while giving a reason for that wrath, only to mellow out because your out of gas. ... seriously .. youtube some lamb of God and see what I mean

I can't think of the song...or the line, but the last half (it seems like it) of the song is the same line screamed over, and over, and... I guess that would produce a list of candidates among us all.

I loath anything by Springsteen and all rock'n'roll Christmas songs, thus his excruciating holiday tune is on the top of my list.

Always rated the top rock song in the surveys, But I just can't stand "Stairway to Heaven". NEVER liked it, never will. The song just grates my nerves to no end. Local rock station seems to play Zepplin about once an hour every day. Had to find a new station.

Bruce Springsteen's groaning and mumbling makes me sick, and I'm from NJ.
I've about had it with McCartney too, I feel my teeth rotting with the sickening sweet stuff he keeps churning out.

"Fool in the Rain" by Led Zep. [/thread]
Robert Plant is a GREAT vocalist, too. Whatever possessed them to release that steaming mound...
A not too close second... "Moondance" by Van Morrison.

I'm so happy to hear someone say "American Pie" & "Stairway to Heaven"! I thought I was the only one who hated those songs.
Every year around New Years radio stations used to do a countdown of the most popular songs. and most years "Stairway to Heaven" would be number one, and that always drove me crazy.
Back in the day, all of my friends were over the moon for Led Zeppelin...I always thought that they sucked! I also never cared for The Doors, The Rolling Stones, or Springsteen (though, I do like "Born to Run").

I so totally agree with this. I've always hated the song. As a matter of fact I don't like any Zeppelin songs. I just cannot stand Robert Plants shrill sounding voice.

I REALLY was trying to stay out of this one, because I've seen a few songs & artists nominated that I actually thought were decent, & I know that everybody can't like the same type of music, so I thought I'd just keep my opinions to myself. However, some of the nominations started to hack me off, so I thought maybe I could return the favor! I nominate Free Bird, by Lynard Skynard. When I was a musician I never had to play the song(Praise God!)& in a few of the feistier bands i was in, if people started shouting for the song, you would be rewarded with a few raised middle digits & the words "No Charge" coming over the sound system. Sometimes it made it interesting getting out of the place.

So I'm not the only one who thinks Springsteen is way overrated.
It is interesting to see how divisive this subject can be. There are several of you that get a thumbsup and others who just slipped off the Xmas card list.
