Which gun publication do you enjoy the most now?

I get five per month but letting the subscription drop on three of them since most of them are advertising and not even honest advertising. The articles may be about a product that stinks but it will expound on the greatness of the item.

Right now, my favorite is the American Rifleman. Still a lot of advertising but good reading much of the time.

I'm a fan of American Handgunner. Always something interesting and I love the Ayoob Files and Cop Talk. I also enjoy Gun Tests and American Rifleman.

I subscribed to Shooting Times for years until Skitter pasted after that wasn't the same.

I get American Hunter as an NRA life member. I buy Handloader occasionally. I read 600+ pages a week recreationaly but very little of it is monthly gun magazines, mostly fiction and biography.

I subscribe to three magazines, American Handgunner, Guns and Small Arms Review.

The last one is kind of a military/machine gun/history type of publication.

Used to do Combat Handguns but it got pretty thin in the revolver department.:)

I get a bunch, and have for a long time:
American Rifleman
Rifle
Handloader
Man at Arms
Shooting Sportsman
Gun List
Trap and Field
and until it went under, Gun Report

I also from time to time will buy Sporting Classics; immediately after finishing it, I swear I will never buy another one!

I'm also always on the lookout for older gun books, Shooter's Bibles, catalogs, etc.

If I had to choose one, Guns. Not just because I've published a couple of articles there, either. I think they have the best mix of articles, columns, and competent writers. Their sister, American Handgunner, is also excellent.

I have very limited interest in, Shooting Times now. Used to be a favorite, but they are just too commercial. The same is true of most other gun magazines, too. I'm not interested in most of the guns they review. The late Don Zutz, one of the best gun writers ever, especially on shotguns, told me that they (ST) returned one of his mss., and he doubted that they had even read it. I think they just want a stable of writers who'll pump advertisers' products. Useful stories that will actually benefit readers are few and far between. Many of the better one appear in, Rifle and, Handloader. Brian Pearce there is my current favorite writer.

Gun Week deserves special mention, for its honesty and the valuable political news. Don't underestimate it because of the tabloid format.

The newspaper-like, Gun Digest has some good historical articles, but I seldom see it on local newsstands. But the (newsprint) paper diminishes the quality of the photos. On slick magazine paper, some would be worth saving.

People are fed up with the sucking up to advertisers, and many now get their gun info on the Net. Alas, there is also a lot of misinformation on the Net.

I have been getting Guns of the Old West for about the last 3 years. The product reviews all seem extremely biased. Everything they review seems to work well, be reasonably priced, and fun to use. I use it to get ideas for hobby leatherwork more than anything else.

I don't waste any money on monthly gunrags anymore. I learned the hard way when I used to subscribe to a couple until all they seemed to write about was 1911s and suck-up advertising a gun-of-the-month.
My only monthly gun mag I get now is American Rifleman. Better writing and info right here too.

Handloader is the only one I get, they lie alot less since their lies could hurt somebody if they should not know what their talking about.
American Riflemen is about anything but rifles,9 or 10 advertisements for semi auto hand guns before you get to a rifle artricle or ad.I let the NRA keep their magazine.

There are guns besides 1911's?

I get Guns Magazine and the American Hunter or whatever with my NRA membership but that's about it. I like Guns because of the Surplus Locker and getting info on those old military guns. I'd love to be the one shooting some of them.

If only allowed one-it would be Guns Magazine. I get 5, including Shooting Times, that I get specifically for Allan Jones. When he goes, I'll be right behind him. Flapjack.

Some of the publications mentioned above are those I have not seen on news stands in years. The grocery store where I shop has a large magazine counter but their supplier will not put gun magazines on display. If I buy a gun publication, I have to either suscribe or pick one up at a book store.

HOWEVER, I got an idea while in a local doctors office last week. Doctors waiting rooms are always filled with out of date magazines and mainly those geared toward ladies. Men go to doctors as well and even go with their wives so why not have things for men to read. My idea is cut your suscription lable off the cover of your gun mags and then bring them into the docotr's lobby with each visit. Just leave them laying around. It will expose others to firearms and it will give a lot of men something to read that holds their interests. I bet that most of us here would love to be able to read a gun mag while in a doctors office. Additionally, it keeps a lot of magazines from being tossed in the trash and puts them in the hands of others that will enjoy them.
