GUN BUY BACK
There's going to be a gun buy back in Myrtle Beach Saturday. You get a $100.00 gift certificate for each working gun.I have a Mdl.36 Nickle plus a M19 and even a M17.Heck,I'll splurge and take the M36 my Dad left me.And also some Detective Specials.Just think of all the neat stuff I can get at the mall with my gift certificates.

The sad part is that there are people that really think like that. Larry

Wow! Cooool! The only time they ever had one around here I did give up a RG .22 that they called "working" since the hammer could be dropped SA, if you lined up the cyl. by hand. I was quite happy with the 50 buck gift cert.
Although I still don't understand how someone can "buy back" something they never owned originaly?

I'll bet that Hit Men and Criminals just love these gun buy backs. Hard to think of a better way to get rid of a "hot" gun and get a bit of cash in the deal.

In February 2009 there was a "gun buyback" in Oakland; $250 a gun. I sold six junk guns (a rusty Belgian pinfire, a couple of Iver Johnsons, a Harrington & Richardson, and I forget what else). I went home with $1500 cash. I don't care what they want to call it. I call it Selling Junk Guns To Fools. I used the money for a US Firearms Single Action revolver with a set of ivory grips from Paul Persinger.

It's just to far, darn it!
I've got the perfect gun!
A buddy found it diving in Fa. It's been grit blasted but it still works! .32 ACP fits the cyl. and there's no reason why it wouldn't fire. Just not by me, or anyone with any thought of self preservation.

Hey Class III
Pick me up on your way. I have 4 or 5 that I have been holding onto for this cause. If we can get 250 for each it would be worth going. I would take 50 each and be happy.

At the Oakland buy back in February 2009,I was fifth in line. Seventh in line were a couple of guys from a San Jose gun store. They sold 10 junk guns, drove away with $2500 cash, and I believe they were laughing so hard that they wet their pants. I heard that a gun store from Fresno came there with over thirty junk guns, but he was limited to sell only five.
I have to acquire more junk guns and wait for the next sales opportunity. Remember; A fool and his money are soon parted. If some fools want to pay some ridiculous amount of money for junk guns, then I will be more than happy to take their money.

I'd like to start my own buyback. I will offer to buy back any of the Smiths I have sold over the years for the same amount of cash I was paid for them. Please PM me with your contact information.

A buddy lives a couple of towns up river. He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer (he's 50 and still lives with his mother.) But on occasion he pulls off a good one. The old river towns seem to have a draw, and the residents won't move out for any reason. The friends dad passed away maybe 10 or 15 years ago. His mother was consoled by the other old ladies on the block. They shared how lonely it was, and one mentioned she even had a gun in her house but was afraid of it. Her feeling was she was better off not even opening the old sock drawer where it had been for decades.
About a year later, another nearby town was having one of the fabled "buybacks". They were even advertising no public money was being used, but instead a donor was underwriting it. The day before my buddy's mother remembered the lady saying she had a gun. So she did what many mothers do, she volunteered the services of her son. He wasn't happy, but figured it wouldn't take much time to walk a few doors, pick up a gun, then go stand in line on a Saturday. Besides, he would get brownie points and the old biddies watched his truck when it was parked.
So down the street he goes. The lady was nice and ushered him into a bedroom and to the dresser. And just as described, it was a sock drawer. Some paperwork, but the gun was easy to find. The lady was scared but stood by. He carefully lifted out a nice old GI 1911. The old lady asked if it was loaded, he said he couldn't tell (he lies a lot). Really he didn't want to rack the slide as fearful as she was. So he asked if she has an old box or something and they put it in. Then the lady asked if he'd also turn in the ammo on the closet shelf. He's a good guy, so he said "sure." Down comes a half dozen boxes of old military ball with a few boxes of commercial ammo. So they boxed them up.
Then the fool calls me to tell me about having to go to the gun buyback. He happened to have some Spanish .25 he'd bought at a jeep parts swap meet a few years before. He paid $30 for it. So the $50 the buyback was offering sounded good. Except the buyback wasn't offering cash, it was a gift certificate at a local department store. Didn't matter to him. He forgot to take the 1911, took the junker and got the gift certificate. Took that to the nice old lady and called it even.
They don't allow trading in line. Like a lot of gun shows won't allow any transactions in the parking lot or lobby. I guess they want to monopolize the deals for their vendors or table holders.
The story continues... Word got around the neighborhood he wasn't afraid of old guns. He got a knock at the door. Another widow from the next block up had a gun she was afraid of. Typical. But once I saw it, I became afraid of it, too. This time he was ready and walked down the block with the 2nd lady. It was a WWII vintage P38, and it has the serial # ground off. The fool kept that one, too. The old woman didn't want the money, she just wanted it gone. I'd have wanted it gone, too.
I have no idea why he kept it, and it reminds me of a grenade with the pin gone and the spoon held in place by a deteriorated rubber band....
To me, that's a terrible legal problem just waiting to go off.

Where is the next buy back program offering $250 per gun? I have an old .357 magnum that I would love to get rid of. Not sure what it is but it may have been stolen from a police property room or the FBI. Has a weird number in the crane area, says REG 3052. That's why I think they once had it and stamped it.

How can the enforce this? - Or even do it?
There is nothing illegal about selling a gun face to face to a citizen from your own state.
And nothing illegal about talking to your fellow citizens in line.
HEY YOU - No talking in line

Did They Sell It To You...
... Then how can they buy it back?
Set up a table and offer to do a non-binding appraisal of the guns? Leave you cards with a phone number and name in plain sight so a customer can see it if interested.
I hate these types of "Get The Guns Off The Streets" buys on many levels. Anonymous sale, was the gun stolen? Can the victim of the theft get the property back? What actually happens to the really nice and valuable guns? And the silly propaganda wasting tax dollars for little return.
I'd like to see a ban on "Buy Backs".
