Hogue Rubber Monogrip For J Frame, Like Or Dislike?
I have a 442 and up until today, it was stocked with Rosewood bootgrips. I like the bootgrips but my wife was having trouble shooting it with the bootgrips because of an arthritic shooting hand and especially with hot loads.
I checked my grip box and discovered I had a long forgotten set of the rubber Hogue Monogrips for the J Frame.
I switched out the bootgrips for the Hogues and found out I LOVED the feel of the Hogues and so did my wife. They offer a much more secure grip and we can get our complete shooting hands on the grips.
The problem is of course is they are larger than the bootgrips and kind of ugly. I don't much care about looks as I want my wife to be able to comfortably shoot the gun.
As I just put them on today, we haven't had a chance to shoot the gun with the Monogrips.
What are you folks thoughts about the Monogrips on the 442? Like I said, they sure are comfortable!

As always it's what works for you that counts! The rubber grips for me although comfortable to shoot with tend to be grabby on clothing and prints and such.

Depends on how you plan to carry your 442. The large grips almost defeat the purpose of concealed carry & printing, unless it is not an issue. If the grips are comfortable and you can hit your target, then you made the right choice.

Too big and too sticky. For me, nothing works better than the stock wood and a t-grip

I have those grips on a model 60 with 3" barrel. This is the gun I carry in my car and take to the range occasionally. Love the grips!

I occasionally put them on my 642 when hiking or hunting and concealment isn't a concern. They look out of place, but are comfortable.

I prefer Pacs over Houge if you are wearing rubbers.

These might be pachmeyer. I have them on a 3" model 36 round butt. They feel good.

The monogrips work great on my 642, I am able to shoot much better groups with them than the boot grips. The monogrips seem to help with the recoil of the +P loads. Can't say that they look good or that they are a problem with concealment, but they work great for me!

I have a pair for my Model 58. I touched them up with a small sanding drum in my Dremel to make them fit my hand perfect. They're ugly, but I can control the gun better when they're on it.
I prefer wood grips that have some checkering. I have a pair of Kuracs on that gun right now that I also touched up to custom fit me. I'm thinking about adding some checkering. That would make them perfect I think.

Those were the factory grips on a 36-6 3". I don't like the looks, but they really fit my hand and are very comfortable to shoot. The rubber is too sticky to work in anything but an OWB holster.

I really like them on my kit guns and wish they made them for the square butt J frame. I use the Bantams as well on my K frame round butts.
FWIW, the sticky problem many mentioned goes away with a little wear. After a few hundred presentations and a few days carry both the Hogues and Pachmayers I used lost the sticky feeling surface. I carried rubber grips on duty plainclothes concealed for several years without printing or catching on clothing.

I have pretty much the same grip only in wood(coco bolo ?) I really like how they feel and since they are wood don't stick to fabrics. I think they look good as well.

Much better and more comfortable for actually shooting lightweight j frames but the cool factor is way low.
My favorite rubber grips are compacs. This is my # 1 carry gun. 11 oz and it's brisk enough that I wear gloves when I practice but in a shtf it's not too much to handle.

doublesharp, I know what you mean as I had those in rosewood and even many other woods and even these at one time:
No offense but I don't care about the "cool factor" anymore as I just want this gun to be comfortable for my wife and me to shoot and these Hogue MonoGrips do it and I don't want this gun to be another "trophy gun" that we don't shoot because of the "cool factor".
Realistically, how "cool" could a 442 be?

I hate the Hoge Rubbers, I have a drawer full of them.
Take them off as soon as I buy the gun.
Clothes Grabbin and Gun Printing Grips.

I got a 638 [J frame round butt] for the wifey for Christmas. She wants a longer rubber grip on it for shooting.
CCW/LTC isn't an issue as we are in Facistfornia. Will the Hogue 60000 fit and work ?
Thanks in advance.

I carry a J frame in front pocket, with those grips I feel like I have a double meat whopper in my pocket. They really do improve the shootability though. Guess if you carried on a belt holster it wouldn't matter as much.

Have that Houge grip on 3 in M60 357 mag (outside the belt holster) , but routed off the huge right advertisement. For me, way to big for 2 in j frame concealed.

For you CCW folks in other states I can understand your concerns with the Monogrips. Here in Calif. CCW is a pipe dream for almost all of us.
I have to admit, I've fallen in love with these cheap j-frame grips and it's a pleasure to shoot with them! They are so light, (even lighter than almost all the smaller wood or solid rubber j-frame grips), yet give such a secure purchase.

Hey Rule 303,
Since you have a drawer full, send me a couple pair of your Hogue Monogrips and I'll even pay for the postage!

They defeat the purpose of a compact revolver...if you want comfort, shoot a k or l frame...to me giant grips on a j-frame are like buying a corvette and adding a trailer to pull your 6 kids in...

BK GRIP adapters (bkgrips.com) on my 36, Laser grips for old eyes on my 642.
The BK Grip adapters are only available in gloss black at the present.
