Default Tucson gunshow 1-7-12

Went to the Crossroads show in Tucson Saturday. It was packed to the max. Normally I find these shows ho-hum and leave around 1pm after a couple passes by the tables. Today I stayed till closing. Much of the offering was the same stuff as always but I was trying to sell a couple guns, so was looking for that last minute buyer.

I have never seen so many Colt Mustangs and Govt. 380's for sale on tables. Usually you will find 1 or 2 but this time there were more than a dozen, many NIB. They were all still priced pretty high. Maybe Colt finally started shipping the new ones out the door, if not, I wonder if people who own a lot of NOS are trying to get their profit before the mass release and price fall due to competition and supply.

I didn't see any Kimber Solo examples but did handle the Ruger LC-9 & Kel-tec PF-9 and Kahr PM-9 & Sig P290. I decided I wasn't in too much hurry to get anything just yet.

Not a whole lot of private sellers waking around, considering the crowd. A couple rifles and maybe a half dozen pistols but not much from the aisle crowd. I was hoping to find a deal walking around, but not this time.

The ATF was there in force, besides the information table they have been setting up at local shows for the past year or so, there were a number of them slinking around in other places.

I saw them handcuffing 2 guys in the parking lot around 1pm, don't know why, there were at least 6 plain-cloths agents with their badges out, many looked like like typical scruffy unkempt gun bubbas you see at every show, while others looked like 6'4" linebackers. Even more were noticeable hanging around at the end of the show, including female agents. I could tell as they were all hanging in groups BS'ing - the guys in the polo shirts from the table, the ones I saw making the bust and others I hadn't noticed before.

Hmmm, wonder why the increase in visible activity.

Although there were several lookers, most didn't have enough cash but did manage to move the Colt Mustang, so I did OK on that transaction - not great but in the black.

My memory is getting to irritate me more every time I try to use it... I completely forgot I installed the Wolf stainless guide rod and spring kit only a few months ago - I should have swapped the orig plastic rod & spring back in, but it was a last minute thing I took along as I was packing to go out the door. I like the small size of the Mustang but feel under gunned with the 380, so I thought I might find one of the new mini 9mm's and if I wanted one I needed to sell something.

The other thing I realized AFTER I had made the trade was all that 380 ammo I have sitting at home with nothing to shoot it, I kinda miss the Mustang, - time for some range therapy.

Saw a very nice 32-20 M&P for a reasonable buck (in today's script)- made me remember the one I mistakenly sold six years ago, thinking at the time it was an extra 38 Spl.(another one of those last minute - "I'll also take this", as I'm walking out the door). Just last show, I traded off the 32-20 ammo I had leftover, I thought I got a pretty good price at $30 a box. Then I spied em on his table marked $50. This time, I traded him 2 boxes of 300 Win-Mag (sold that gun last year) for 2 boxes 9mm Super-X 147gr Subsonic Let's see... paid $15-these 9mm marked $30 seems like a good deal...

all in all a good show, maybe in a few I'll replace the mustang when the prices come down... Anyone else attend?

Sorry I missed it (PHX), my 2yo and new Burleyroo kept me pretty busy.

Did any agents offer you a full-auto AR for a hunting trip in Nogales?!! I hear you can get some nice equipment from the ATF these days.... They should offer package deals.
