Unhappy New Bushmaster has heaviest

buffer spring I have ever seen. I have "locked to the rear" more than a few M-16's and almost as many AR's in my lifetime and was even a Unit Armorer with 320 M-16's to do maintenance on and never felt one like this new gun. We shot 26 rounds out of it yesterday and at least half of the time the bolt wouldn't come back far enough to pick up a new round. It would alwas eject the spent cartridge, but most times wouldn't feed a fresh round.

We were shooting some stuff from walmart that I thought was Wolfe at a glance, but wasn't. Some 3 letter brand I had never heard of. Not UMC or WCC. Black, yellow and red box. 55 gr FMJ's. Last round stuck in the chamber and charging handle wouldn't pull it out. Brought it home and took a brass cleaning rod and knocked it loose. I had bought 80 rounds, but won't shoot any more of it.

Can I get a slightly lighter spring anywhere?

Probably PMC.
As for buffer springs, I'm sure Brownell's and most on line AR accessory vendors has them in stock.

XXXXXX

I know Precision Metalic Cartridge. I found one of the empty steel cases in my ditty box and the best I can read with my weak eyes is Tufammo or something xlose to that. It is steel and olive green.

It was probably TulAmmo. Made in the Tula Ammunition factory in either the Ukraine or Russia if I remember right. They're one of the factories that made wolf and it's made to the same specs.

XXXXX

look life Tuf to my old eyes. I borrowed a BIG magnify(i)ing glass from my wife and it is most definitely Tulammo.

My guess is that when the last case didn't extract and the gun cycled, the bolt closing and locking drove the case even tighter into the chamber.

I didn't "mic" the last round. I just threw it in the garbage with the rest of the spent cases because I ruined an almost new brass rod getting it out.

I have two hundred Fedral rounds I bought from Wal-Mart in 100 round boxes. 55 grain FMJ's also. Anyone have any experience with these rounds?

tks

Firing steel cased Russian ammo may well have voided your warranty, but you could try getting Bushmaster to send you a new spring. While I'm sure that some people have various ARs that have digested 1000s of rounds of Russian steel cased ammo, the majority of the breed will likely prefer brass cased ammo.

See if you have any problems with the Federal ammo. Most any bulk pack ammo sold at Walmart from an American manufacturer will be at least serviceable.
