Default ANYBODY who is even HALFWAY interested.......

.... in WWII Russian history need to see this movie.

I was running through some stuff and found out that Russian and Ukraine made a movie in 2015 called the ''Battle for Sevastopol" that mainly follows Lyudmila Pavlichenko or "Lady Death", the sniper who killed over 300 of the enemy. It's more personal than 'Enemy at the Gates' and reminded me of a a doc I saw on diaries from WWI about Marina Yurlova, a 14 year old Cossack girl who followed her father into battle and has quite a story to tell.

found it on Amazon and plunked down 3 bucks and said, "Oh, I'll start watching it and finish it later. I was still watching early this morning. Fantastic. They sent her over here for a nudge to get us into the war. She was treated rather poorly, but she was a friend of Eleanor Roosevelt, which helped a lot. Near the end she told everybody. "I've been out there since June of 1941 killing 300 of the enemy and it's time you stopped hiding behind my coat tails." The poor thing had lost three people she hoped to marry (of course a lot of other people did, too) but she was badly wounded several times and had a concussion but kept going out into the field to kill more. She also had a bad case of PTSD.

I watched it and really enjoyed it.

Either Netflix or Amazon also has a three part modern remake of the 1972 Russian classic "The Dawns Here Are Quiet". The story of a group of Russian women and their sergeant at an anti-aircraft spot, who wind up in a "Lone Survivor" type situation.

Of course, it was criticized in Russia by their version of the "all remakes are bad" folks, but since I hadn't seen the original it was all new to me, and I thought it was very well done.

A zori zdes tikhie... (2015) - IMDb

Sounds great. Interesting.

What I'd really like to see is is a nicely done production about Simo Hayha, the best of them all. Russia's not going to make a movie about him, though. And Hollywood isn't going to either, as it would portray the USSR in a negative light. It's probably safe to say that the Hollywood Anti-Nazi League still has some influence and sympathy...even after 80 some years.

Thank you very much for that info. Sure enough, it's listed on IMDB, but only as "in development." It will be interesting to see who's making the film.
