Default sd40 ve feeding probs, hps get stuck halfway!

whats good s&w?

to start off, i fired a 100 rounds of wwb with no probs. today i tried to manually cycle abt 4 critical defense and every round appeared to stop at the end of the feed ramp. i thought it was the rubber tip and exchanged the ammo for some gold dots. same problem! eventually it would get stuck, at the shop it started throwing out the last round w/o chambering? even caught the bullet ejecting halfway out of the slide. at the range of 50 pmc fmj rounds, 2 stuck the same way. i cannot remove the bullet w/o removing the mag. even the mags are cleaned n lubed. 150 rounds now and the gold dots still hang, at the end of the ramp sometimes even at the beginning of the barrel. i hope this makes sense, thanks for the read and replys!

Were the PMC and Glod Dots failing to feed only while hand cycling the slide, or also while actually firing? If it's only happening during hand cycling, then you might need to rack the slide and release it more vigorously. I've run into many guns that fail to feed properly when slowly cycling the action, but feed fine when firing or when vigorously hand-cycled.

Are the slide rails and barrel exterior lubed? What kind of lube did you use? Wet guns run better than dry guns, but the magazine and chamber should be clean and dry, not lubed.

Has the gun had a cleaning? Guns sometimes come covered in anti-corrosive material that can impede proper function. Make sure there's no debris under the extractor hook.

How many rds total have you fired through the gun? Some guns need a break-in of several hundred rds to reach optimum reliability.

Is this happening with all your magazines or only one? If it's happening with only one mag, you likely have a mag issue. It may help to mark your magazines to keep track of which is which. I number mine with a paint pen on the floorplate.

Are you holding the gun firmly with a high grip, and a stance that places your body weight forward, with your wrists locked? Good grip and stance support good weapon functioning.

If it still fails to feed the ammo types you've mentioned (actually firing, not hand cycling) after firing it a total of 300-400 rds, and if it's doing so with numerous magazines and the gun is clean and well-lubed, then I'd have another experienced auto pistol shooter fire the pistol to see if it does the same thing for him. If it does the same thing, then your gun probably needs to go back to S&W.

thanks yall,
hand cycling and the gold dots stick, i dont ride the slide i let it go, even vigorously cycling will lead to a round sticking. the pmc's stuck while firing.

everything is clean as a whistle, i dont let it sit a few days w/o cleaning it. strike hold generously to clean and gun & lube outside of barrel. and tetra gun grease for the slide.

both mags,i also use a gun cleaning cloth on gun and when i broke apart the mags. 150 rounds, i still dont get why gdots dont chamber? as well as fmj's.

the guys at the shop were amazed,

Thanks again!

Sounds like you've eliminated the possibility that it's anything but the gun. I'd call Smith and send it to them.

I had the same problem with my SD40. The pmc's would jam going up the ramp and when it cycled a round. What I found was the spring on the extractor was too strong. Put in a lighter spring and it shoots fine.
