I am having a hard time with the anti gun media and need to vent. Wisconsin has had cc since Nov of 2010 and last Monday we had our first good guy takes on bad guy at an Aldis store in Milwaukee WI also known as killwaukee do to the crime and killings. Bad guy and buddy walk into Aldis with shotgun to rob the place and legal cc permit holder shoots the bad guy with the shotgun wounding him and both the wounded robber along with his buddy have been arrested. No charges will be brought against the cc permit holder even though Aldis has the no guns allowed stickers on their doors ( wonder if they will change their policy) Heres what has me madder then a wet hornet! Not a word in the media about this incident. Now if something had gone wrong Say cc permit holder hit another shopper or bad guy had gotten the better of the situation then the media would have been all over it. this is the first since Nov that a lawfull person has had to use deadly force and every anti gunner thought we would be living in the wild west. Now another thing that has my goat is last thursday Eric Holder was to be Questioned about the failed FAST AND FURIOUS operation and I could find no media whatso ever on what happened until this week. I asked a few people if they heard anything about the Milwaukee shooting and nobody heard about it. When I ask about FAST AND FURIOUS some people tell me they have never heard about it. Go figure.
Thanks for letting me vent I hope by bringing up Eric Holder I have not broken the no politics rule and if so please feel free to delete this post. I just needed to vent.

It may be a good thing that this got no media attention. If the media had covered it the story could have gone like this, "Armed Citizen Lives Out Vigilante Fantasy In Local Store." Shoots two SUSPECTED criminals without warning or provocation:eek:

Less than 1% of newsworthy events are ever in the media. The stories are hand chosen and repeated constantly to manipulate visions of reality. I was explaining to an anti gunner how violent crime is plummeting near an all time low in states that are becoming "will issue" and his answer was "It's not true because I see more crime in the news." It's sad how many people think the TV tells them what's going on in the world.

About 6 mos ago two guys walked into a Chicago south side Aldis and promptly shot the security guard to death and wounded a customer in an attempted robbery. Both guys were caught and one hung himself while in jail. Aldis is one of the few food chains willing to open shop in Chicagos worst neighborhoods. Residents of these neighborhoods are pretty much screwed by the other local small store food merchants.

It´s the same all over the world, as if the media outlets had some kind of conference and reachead a protocol on how to handle news like these.
It boils down to: no matter what happens, whether by silence or negative comments, their final position is anti gun, anti gun ownership and anti legal self defense.
In Brazil for instance the only applauded, and widely reported self defense case is when some octagenarian uses a broom as weapon.

Iowa went Shall issue in January of 2011. The Des Moines Register, a very anti-gun paper wrote several editorials during debate on the law that warned of people shooting each other over being cut off in traffic, etc. Several other newspapers also did the same.
At 6 months into the year I wrote a letter to the editor of the Register pointing this out and asking where all those stories were. I said I can only conclude that they were either missing these stories altogether.....or they had been wrong. They did not print the letter.
Two months later I again sent that letter, putting a note on it that I had sent it two months before and it had not been printed. I said I realize this may be embarrassing to the paper, but I would appreciate it if they would print it. A few weeks later they did. I read this paper on-line and in the "comments" from other readers it was mostly people agreeing with me, but one person said eight months is no real gauge of the laws real effect, and we JUST NEEDED TO WAIT for these shootings to start occurring. Uh Huh. Its' been over thirteen months now, still no stories.:)
Write some letters to your paper like this in a few months pointing these facts out. The truth can hurt sometimes.

Unfortunately few media outlets spend much time on "Warm-Fuzzy"
good news.

If it's covered at all, it'll be at the bottom of the last column on page 12.

No wonder I don't see these articles in our small town paper of 9 pages.

For the record, Wisconsin went to Shall Issue November of 2011, not 2010, and the first real permits were issued a few weeks later.

The media is liberal and has been for a long time! They surely have an agenda and I am surprised at the non-biased reporting we are getting out of Milwaukee right now on this incident. Quite favorable actually. :)

In the current enviroment, somethings are better off not being in the media. A couple of years ago a friend was involved in a robbery/shooting at a local convenient store. One of his bullets actually lodged in the assailant's shotgun barrel, another one killed the kid. It took almost a year for him to get his weapon released back to him, with the local firearms owner group purchasing him one in the mean time. The assailant was elevated to sainthood in the media, because he was holding up the store with an unloaded shotgun.

BUT, there was a article in today's paper about how Jamaica is melting 2,000 guns in a large blast furnace which is going to help control the crime in that country!

Very interesting read. I did not take an NRA concealed carry course to get an IA permit to carry as I am a retired federal officer and firearms instructor and can carry concealed in all states and terrorties under federal law HR-218. I have discussed the following issue with numerous permit holders in IA (which is a shall issue state) and they all advise that the subject was not discussed or pointed out at any of the NRA classes that they attend. This is the issue: civil law suits brought by the perp or the perp's family that the permit holder shot. Unless your state has "specific" laws on the books preventing these law suits, you can find yourself in a situation where no criminal charges are filed by the DA, you are praised for your actions by those you saved only to later be hit with a civil law suit. Your home owners insurance is not going to do you any good. You will be basically on your own. You could easily spend $200,000.oo or more defending yourself and proving successfully that you acted properly in every aspect. You WIN the case!! Your attorney still expects to be paid and if retired, there goes a good protion of your savings.......just to prove you did nothing wrong. Most of the time the "perps" who brought the law suit have no money or property for you to come back against to try and recoop some of your cost to defend and they are represented by some attorney pro bono. It cost them nothing to sue you! I think this is an issue that needs to be "stressed" by all concealed carry instructors. Naturally if it is a life or death situation with the attack being against you or a family member you will protect youself and family. This is just something to be aware of. States issue these permits, require minimal training (compared to a law enforcement officer's training over the course of a career) and then they provide no protection against these sure to come civil law suits. If you're not in a position to simply write out a check to your attorney, you're going to be working for him for a long time to pay-off his attorney's fees and court cost.

I don't understand all this news of crimes occurring..........Didn't the Omnibus Crime Bill of 1994 outlaw crime? I'm pretty sure all the newspapers said crime was over once as soon as it was passed. Was I misled? I'm SO confused!

A burglar can sue you for injuring his back climbing through the window, whether you have a gun or were even home at the time. There is nothing you can do to prevent someone from suing you. But this is NOT the problem. The problem is the judge and legal system that allows frivolous lawsuits to be brought before the court.

Also many states are passing or have passed (as we did in PA) "Castle Doctrine" type laws which add a level of law-suit protection to law-abiding citizens when they have protected themselves in areas where they are legally allowed to be.
