Western Boots Recommendations?
I have a fine older pair of Boulet deerskins I wear occasionally but have the itch for something new. Looking at Lucchese, Tony Lama, Dan Post and others.
Before I invest I thought I'd ask for some recommendations. These will never see a horse or a ranch. I'm "All Hat and No Cattle" as it were. They'll be used for Saturday nights, mostly.
Thanks,

I'd have to vote for "comfortable".

I spent almost the first half my life wearing boots, mostly cowboy boots. Then for awhile we werent suppose to wear cowboy boots in uniform. Now I have over a $1,000 worth of boots in the garage that hurt to put on and I cant bare to throw out or give away. My wife makes remarks about it. When you dont wear them for awhile I think your feet spread or something.

All top brands. Second the idea that comfort is #1. Takes more than a 2 minute try on.
Last pair I purchased were from the Tony Lama shop in El Paso. They fitted me right. Great boots.

In the 80's there was Lama "outlet' boot store around here. I'll bet I had 20 pair. I've still got 3 pair left. Ostrich, Elephant, and Python. I never realized when you get fat, your feet get fat. I can't wear them since about 1995. I'd recommend Lamas in Ostrich for comfort.

A big AMEN, brother!
It may not be so with everyone, but with my foot shape, I simply cannot abide the fit of some boots. If one pair of a certain brand won't work for me, it is very likely none or almost none of theirs can be worn by me.
You gotta go see.
Buy high quality. Buy the brand that fits.

Same here...my lizard skin Lamas from the late 80s feel like a vise. I just can't seem to give them away though..maybe it's nostalgia...that was my harley, babes and boots era...

Lucchese ain't all they used to be. Still a good boot, but not what you'd have bought 20 years ago. I bought a pair of Nocona bull hide when my daughter was about 6 months old. I had them resoled and reheeled yearly until I just couldn't do it any more. My cobbler says he can do it again, but they just look plumb near wore out. Daughter will be 16 this year, and the boots were about all I wore fall/winter/spring. My wife says they look funny with shorts in the summer.
Nocona no longer makes my size, 14A (yeah, yeah, I've heard ALL the jokes), so I found two pair on eBay that a fella had purchased several years ago and worn three or four times each. I got both pair for under $200 total, and I'm wearing the brown ones right now. They're calf skin, so they likely won't last as long, but they're cheap enough and fit perfectly.
I also had a pair of Mercedes elephant that I wore for about 15 years that were well worth the money. I don't know if Mercedes is making boots anymore, though.

Lucchese "Classic's? Try grapevinehill.com for discount prices on Lucchese boots.....They for some reason have become the number one outlet for Lucchese Boot, the Lucchese family sold-out years and years ago....M.L, Leddy Fort Worth....Who knows who really ownes the old time boot companies anymore. Justin and Nacona are now under the same umbrella company.....Actually Nacona was owned by Enid Justin.......At least go to www.Ghrapevinehill.com Of all places #1 First Ave. Peabody Ma. 979 338 5552 They have become one if, not the largest outlet of boots and shoes......Tony Lama has maintaned a pretty good reputation over the years....Good Luck from a lifetime owner and wearer of westren boots.....Rio's of Mercedes is still in business or so I have heard......They were great boots at least in the early 90's

Besides cowboy boots, I have about various 4 pairs of these russell boots. I am from where the factory is and my family was friends of the generation of owners. Russells is all custom made for each person. You trace your foot and they keep the traceing on file. They are EXSPENDSIVE. Check them out! Many styles. I used to go home and go through the ones that were sent back for whatever reason. Once I bought a pair that were sent back from joe adcock a famous milwaukee braves player.
I was in louisianna hitch hikeing. A state trooper picked me up and we got talking. He found out I was from wisconsin and told me he was joe adcocks uncle. I said, would ja belive I am wearing his boots?

Great story, Feral!
"When you dont wear them for awhile I think your feet spread or something."
Your foot size changes over time. Back in the mid '90s my foot sole hurt like the dickens. I went to a podiatrist who said I had a planars wart, and asked what my shoe size was. I said, "11 1/2." He said, "When's the last time you checked?" I said, "High school?" He said, "Let's check 'em out." I am a size 12 1/2. No wonder my feet hurt!
I got a pair of lizard skin cowboy boots I bought in the late '80s that I can't wear anymore either...

There are four pair in my closet. Like others two are now smaller than I would like them to be. My favorites were the Nocona Oily Toro. A Texas buddy said that meant Greasy Bull.

Nocona. Once upon a time I was the chaplain of a Fire Dept. Once annually the put on a rodeo. Since I did the invocation, I was expected to dress appropriately. So... I got myself a big black Resistol hat and a nice pair of black cowhide Nocona boots. That was about 1985. Those boots are still going strong... and I don't know how many soles and heels they've had. I wear them to church, etc. Very comfortable.

Well, for fancy Saturday night boots it'd be hard to beat these..
M.L. Leddy's - Custom Handmade Cowboy Boots & Saddles | Handmade Western Boots
For a bargain, go to Puerto Vallarta and check out the boots at The Rolling Stone. Last time I was there I bought two pair, one lizard, one sharkskin for $50/pair.

Western boots
If you have the money to spend, Leddy's in Ft Worth still makes a nice custom fitted boot. Lucchese classics are still handmade and high quality but have gotten quite pricey lately.
A relatively new company on the national scene is Black Jack. Their boots look for all the world like Lucchese knockoffs for about half the price and for what I have seen their quality is high. And if you special order them the options are free where Lucchese charges for the same changes.
Good luck

For daily wear, I love Tony Lama.
For dress to impress wear, I wear Dan Post in their exotic skins other than snake.
Either way, they will have pointed toes.
I bought my very first pair of tennis shoes last year. Wore them once. Been wearing western boots since I was five years old.

These are my custom made Cognac Ostrich boots I had made by Luskey's/Ryon's in Fort Worth. Very comfortable, and the cost was reasonable. Under a grand three years ago. I always wanted a pair of Ostrich Boots.

Outstanding! Nice boots.
Not surprised by the cost. My original target was to stay under $250 since that's what I paid for the Boulet's about 15 years ago. When I saw a pair of Lucchese Classics I was interested in it became obvious that price point wasn't gonna happen!

ML Leddy in Ft. Worth does do fine boot work as does James Leddy in Abilene. For non custom boots I have always been partial to Nacona, my brother and my dad wouldn't wear anything but Tony Lama, but that was years ago when their quality was up there with custom made boots. That being said the most comfortable pair I own are snake skin made in Mexico for 50 bucks!

Dito-I have 5 pairs no less! The tops are wide enough so I can get my instep in-Have them in Elk, Ostrich, Cow Hide-Only prob is that my ten year old Elk boots are really soft and they beat up easy.

I quit buying off-the-shelf boots years ago after I discovered Heritage Boots in Austin Texas. Heritage offers a wide selection of custom hand-made boots at a reasonable price. I‘ve worn boots all my life and can honestly say their boots are the most comfortable I’ve put my feet into. I'm not positive but I think they now sell over the internet.

If you buy off the shelf boots, go to the boot store in the afternoon or evening to try them on because your feet will be bigger than in the morning. It has to do with your feet swelling due to the weight you put on them walking around all day.

VERY GOOD ADVICE...HEED or go trough misery, not walking but long rides in a vehicle. Feet will swell from sitting...No kidding it happens. I had a pair of perfect hand fitted Paul Bond, got them new out of the box and headed for Northern Arizona where I ended up cutting down the side seem the relieve the torment, couldn't pull them off with all the subsribed tricks..Damn they were nice boots, and since they were tall it was worse. Cut side seems there is no repair except complete disassembly.

I am not interested in Western boots with pointed toes or high heels. I have a very high instep and it is almost impossible for me to get boots on my feet (8 1/2 M) unless there is a side zipper. I do not need water proof boots, as these will be for casual and dress wear. I bought a pair of Red Level boots from Bass Pro Shop. They are very comfortable and just what i wanted for jeans, BUT, they a waterproof and the zipper does not relieve them very much. I just hate the struggle of getting them on. What I really want is a pair of GOOD leather boots in a nice brown color with a full length side zipper that are comfortable, easy to get on and will take a good polish.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I like most brands, and own many, including Tony Llama, Nocona, Chisolm, Lucchese, Dan Post, among others. But a few years ago I bought my first pair of Double H (HH) brand boots and found them to be so far superior in comfort and the equal to any other in build quality, that I won't buy any other brand now, even though they are made in China.
