Default Electric Shavers, which is the best brand?

I have kind of a thick beard and most electric shavers don't work to well. I have a Wahl and a Braun's and they kind of work but only if I've shaved with a razor a day before. If I have a 2 day beard forget it, they won't work. There are so many options out there so I thought I'd ask here if anyone can suggest the best electric shaver.

Take er easy.

I've got a Norelco I've been using for a couple years. It does a pretty good job, better than most. Still not as close as a blade, but it's rechargeable and I don't need running water to use it.

There are many models of Norelco's, which one do you have?

an electric shaver will never give you the same kind of shave that you get with a razor. but, i have been using a norelco model 725RL (long since discontinued) for 20+ years and it gives me a good shave. i only change the blades once a year. its part of the "lift and cut" group that takes NORELCO HQ4 Plus Replacement Heads or PHILIPS NORELCO HQ55.

I had to go check! It's a 7340XL, bought it at Best Buy. Around 50 or 60 bucks as I recall.

The best I couldn't say, but currently I have and use two inexpensive Brauns (sp?) and they have been great. Have had Norelcos - never liked them. I never expect any electric shaver to cut as close as a blade.

I've used norelco, a few brauns, now I have a remmington. It doesn't seem to matter. They all work only the day after shaving with a razor, and eventually the battery wears out and it's cheaper to just replace them. I don't even bother anymore. I shave with a razor or I just don't shave.

I own a Braun 7526, with the auto-cleaner. This is my second one, and it's absolutely the best shaver I've owned. I replaced the cutter head and screen after four years, and I change cleaning cartridges about every two months.

I have a Remington that gives me a very close shave. Blades are replaced a couple times a year. Since it is cordless, I get to shave on the road. I cannot notice the difference between my electric razor and a blade.

That said, electric shavers come in different qualities. A $30 shaver is not going to give the results that a $120 will. A person has to get used to a shaver and learn how to get the best shave.

I use a Norelco 6423LC, and it is the best I've found. However, I don't believe that ANY of them live up to their advertising. In fact, I believe that Norelco itself could be convicted in court of false advertising. For years they've said that their lift-and-cut system would pull the whiskers upward, cut them off, and then leave them below the surface of the skin. Not in my experience, certainly; I think it's baloney. Nonetheless, I've found them to do a better job than the others I've tried.

Norelco. For Christmas my wife bought me a new one... to replace the one that I'd been using for over 20 years. The new one can be used wet. Very cool. I have a medium heavy beard. This new Norelco gives me a very smooth shave when used w/o any water. But, running the head under hot water and shaving with it produces a result just about equivalent to using a sharp triple-blade razor. And... there is no irritation or nicking, etc. Very cool.

Thumbs up

I have one of the Norelco wet / dry models. I use it with shaving gel in the shower. I works very well for me, especially when I shave everyday. I went with the self cleaning / charging station. I think is was about $175, but I'm very happy overall.

Or you could just go all Grizzly Adams?

I had a couple Remingtons, then someone suggested a Braun. No difference that I can tell, they appear to be about the same. As stated, can't beat a razor.

I use an old Remington that has a cord. It shaves real close and has an edge trimmer on one side. I've used it for over 20+ yrs and I'm going to cry when it gives up. Forget battery powered ones, you could mow grass with this one.

Have had all the brands over the years and like my new Norelco - the best I have used, plus it has a trimmer that actually works.

They seem to have a much shorter life span nowadays. I had a Remington for 10+ years. Then a couple of Brauns (2-4 years). Latest one is Philips Norelco. I've never bought one costing a c-note plus.

I have a very heavy beard, and very sensitive skin...the worst possible combination. In the winter, I can get a close (actually very nice) shave with my Braun electric razor. (I can't remember the model number, but it's one of the top of the line ones.) In the summer, I switch to a Gillette multi-blade razor and Edge shave gel. I guess it is because my face is slightly damp because of the heat, but I just can't get a good shave with the electric in the summer.

I am retired, so I don't shave every day like I used to do...and I can get a very close, good shave when I skip a couple of days from either one (the electric or the razor.) When I shave every day, for some reason and unlike some who have already posted, I don't get as close and nice a shave.
