Good Gun stores in Atlanta
Going to Atlanta for some schooling for a few days and our classes seem to let out early so what are some good gun stores to visit? I actually have to go there about 4 times this year for school. I had the choice of Chicago or Atlanta as Im right between both (8 hours either way). Of course I always pick Atlanta, I will be staying in Morrow just south of the city.

I'm not sure about the southside of ATL. My favorite GS in ATL is Adventure Outdoors They are at 2500 South Cobb dr in Smyrna Ga. On the North West side of town.
They have 10,000 guns in stock. They are also very competitive on price. adventureoutdoors.us is their website.

Unfortunately the Southern Crescent is, as far as my knowledge goes, lacking in REALLY GOOD stores. If you are in Morrow, Moss Gun and Pawn is nearby at the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and Tara Boulevard. They are ok with quite a few long guns in stock. I bought my Henry Golden Boy and a Remington .243 from them. Since you are from out of state, don't bother with Georgia Range and Gun in Forest Park. They tend to be limited in long guns dealing mostly, as one employee told me, in "tactical defensive weapons" (handguns). My wife said she saw a gun shop on the square down in McDonough but I know nothing about that one.

It's been years but there was a very good G.S. located in Smyrna, located on Windy Hill rd. right off Cobb Parkway. Nice folks and a good selection of handguns.

Atlanta Gun Shop
Try Candler Road Pawn. I was just there a few weeks ago. He has a lot of both new and used guns. Saw some old Smiths in the case but nothing I was looking for. Hope this helps.

The southside of Atlanta is really lacking for a "good" gun store. Moss Pawn is OK, if you like dealing with people who believe they know more than you do and do not mind telling you. Georgia Range and Guns dpes not have a very good selection at all. Ed's Pawn in Stockbridge is good, but they deal mostly with plastic guns and some long guns. Adventure Outdoors is good, with a good selection of Smiths, but it is a haul from where you will be staying. Candler Road is not real close, but it is about the best on the southside in terms of selection. Just not much around the Airport that I can or will recommend.

I'm more familiar with the North side of Atlanta, but have seen some nice firarms in Autry's Armory just north of Fayetteville, 116 Bethea Rd.If you have time to travel north into Acworth, it's Acworth Gun, 678 437 4570 in Downtown Acworth. Stoddard's at 5840 Bankhead Hwy, Douglasville.

you are in Atlanta and you want to waste free time in a gunshop when you can go see the CNN studios ???? Wolf Blitzer or Christianne Armenpour might be there.

Thats a good shop but is more geared toward the LEO community now. It's just around the corner from Adventure Outdoors which has 17 indoor shooting lanes, 10,000 guns in stock 8,000 on display, even a cafe to eat lunch while you shop. Both of these shops are easy to get to from I-75.
I wouldn't waste my time at Stoddards. It's a nice little store but little selection, and bais sales people.
The website is not the best but you get the idea.

I remember reading id a DUcks Unlimited mag about some gun store north of Atlanta that sells hunting guns by the truck load. It was a mecca for hunters and was connected to something like a gas station or store or something. Was a pretty neat read but I can't find the magazine. Maybe some of our members know the shop I am talking about

You might be talking about Barrow's, which is attached to a NAPA store. It's in Butler which is 1.5 hours or so south of Atlanta. I don't know of any north of the city that match that description. If there is one I'd like to know about it.
Barrows might be the best store in the state. Member Redlevel is very familiar with it. It'd be worth a trip if you have the time. Find Butler on the map. It's a small town and you'll find the store.
In my opinion there are very few even decent stores in the metro area, at least for the kind of stuff most at this site like.
Chuck's in Buckhead has high end shotguns and rifles, and occasionally has some nice revolvers. I've actually gotten some good deals there, one in particular was a Colt SAA.
David's Gun Room in Norcross is worth a look if you're in the area.

Just out of curiosity, when will you be here? There is a gun show April 28-29 at the Expo center on Jonesboro Road. That's a straight shot up from Morrow about 4-5 miles. About 100 yards past the Forest Park city limits where you cross into Atlanta and just on the other side of I-285.

There hasn't been a good gun store in downtown Atlanta in nearly 40 years.
You've got to go north, south, east or west to find any number of good ones.
Although it's not the same as when Clarence was alive, Franklin's in Athens is a good place- haven't been there in a year or two...or three. At least they have stuff that is most hunting rather than "tacti-cool." Most other places in town cater to the ballistic nylon crowd, with exception of some pawn shops.
I guess I feel more at home in a shop that is more hunting oriented, rather than some kind of video-game-operator-spec-ops-cloak-dagger-armchair-mercenary type of junk. But if there is a deal...I don't care what kind of shop it's in.
It's all in the eye of the beholder, or from the point of view of what you want in a gunshop.
I do need to stop being such a curmudgeon on my opinion...but it's so enjoyable.

Here it is.
NAPA/Gun Store
It is a very easy, and this time of year, pretty drive down US Highway 19 from Jonesboro. Four-lane all the way.
