favorite hunting weapon?

My Ithaca 37 Deluxe Deerslayer in 16 gauge. I inherited this gun back in 2002 and ever since then it has pretty much been my one and only except since I have been hurt which makes it tough to hold any long gun. But I have killed deer, coyote and more grouse than I can recall with it, behind me as I type this the rack from my last buck, a nice 10 pointer that it dropped on the spot and to my left a heavy 6 pointer as well.

funny

that made my day.
thats how my dad killed his first deer. with a truck

I've killed more deer with vehicles than any firearm I've ever owned.

I nailed a huge 10-point buck once on Hwy 111 just north of Dunlap TN, in my semi-truck. He hopped out in front of me while my rig was struggling up the hill, all of 25 mph. Needless to say I killed it. The deer's heavy body managed to dent my front fender into the tire, bringing me to a stop on a steep hill. A sheriff's deputy pulled up a few minutes later and asked me if I had been the one who killed the "huge-*** buck" a hundred yards away or so.

"Yes, I did, deputy.."

" Well....... You want it?"

"Nope.."

" Can I have it, then??.."

He then whipped out his cell-phone and called his father..... at 1:30 in the morning, and told him to "bring the truck". They got the big deer off of the road, I had a wrecker come and pull the bumper out of the tire, and then went on my merry way to the house..

that is very funny. i was driving behind this guy in a jeep and he ran over a jack rabbit while they were criss-crossing in front of his tires. he slammed on the brakes and ran over it a few times. he then put it in his deer rack. he hit a bump and that little rabbit flew higher than the cab. we also pull many pranks. my dad had just won a ruger vaquero and he went to go set out a beer can to shoot at. as soon as he set it down, the guy that was going to shoot the gun first (same jeep-guy), shot it (completely away from him) and my dad jumped about three feet in the air. never seen an old man jump that fast!!!:)

I wasn't there but if I understand the post, that sounds like unacceptable gun handling to me. Certainly not something to be put forth as a humorous prank.

what is your favorite hunting weapon(s).
what weapons do you carry to the stand?
i use a Browning a-bolt composite stalker 7mm WSM, i also carry a Smith & Wesson model 908 9mm and a hunting knife.
what about you guys out there?

I hunt whitetail with a Savage Model 111 .30-06.
It started life as a package gun with an ugly synthetic stock and a cheap, grainy scope.
I have since replaced the stock with a nice wooden one, and last year I put a Timney trigger & a Leupold VX II 3x9x40 on it. It sure is a nice looking rifle now.
The best part is, the first deer I killed with it was my only wall-hanger, a 10 point.

For my hunting knife, I carry my Kershaw 1050 (a real one, not the China fake, LOL).
Now that I finally have my NYS pistol license, I'll also be carrying my M&P40 FS or my 6" 586 no-dash this year.

Remington CDL or Remington Model Seven, both in 7mm-08,for the deerstand. Browning A-5 20 gauge in the dove field, though I occasionally use a Remington 1148 in 28 guage. Remington 1100 Magnum 20 in the duck blind. Winchester 37 in .410 for the rabbits and tree rats. Remington 12 guage 1187 Special Purpose in the turkey woods.
f.t.

This post reminded me of how forgetful I was in my first post.....I use either an Remington 870 .410 or a Winchester 37 .410 for the bunnies :D

Squirrels, a Ruger 10/22 that I've had for 25 years.

Deer, a Ruger model 77RSI (Mannlicher stock) in .308 Winchester.

I always have a handgun along. Normally my S&W model 15 but if bears may be encountered, my Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt sits on my hip.

Deer- Stevens 200 action custom barrel .260
Elk- Rem 700 30-06
LR Varmits- Savage 10 action custom barrel .243
SR Varmits- M&P-15 Sport
Dove/Duck- Benelli Montefeltro 20g
Turkey-Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag 12g
Quail-Winchester Model 42 410 bore
Trap-Nikko 28g

Deer/elk/moose/antelope: Remington 700 ADL in .270 I bought in 1977 or a Ruger MK II in 7mm Mag, just depends which one I'm in the mood for. Usually carry a handgun, usually again, which ever one I'm in the mood for, might be my 651, 2.5" 66, 631, Glock 26, just never know...

my dad was one way and the guy shot straight away from him... in the complete opposite direction. no one was at risk of being shot. he shot right into a lake. perfectly safe..

Squirrels & Bunnies - 10" Contender 22 Match or 14" Contender Carbine 22 Match.
Deer - 14" Contender Carbine 7-30 Waters or 4" 686
Birds - Winchester M10 12 gauge.
Goblins in the night - Colt 1911 45ACP or 686

I LOVE deer hunting with the Contender - The other guys where we park think it's a toy :)
You can't see much over 30 yards where I hunt and both the 7-30 & .357 Mags do the job = DRT. The 7-30 Waters is even a bit of an over kill at short distances....

For deer in the lower part of the state where I had the potential of a long shot my rifle was a 700 Remington BDL 25.06 with a 3-9 Redfield wide field. (Purchased that outfit in mid 70s) Barrel was floated, action glassed and a trigger adjustment done. With well worked up hand loads that rifle was super accurate &responsible for a lot of venison.

Up north in the Adirondacks most times I used either my model 29 in 8 3/8 or 4''. Took a total of 6 deer with those 2 Smiths.

Do to circumstances I do not hunt anymore but still have all 3 guns and shoot them a bit on my own range behind house!

For deer,I ambush 'em,, jump on 'em an slit their throat, then sorta steer em' toward the truck.
fer black bear I set a snare, just before i cut it loose I kick it between the hind legs, while its rollin on the ground I gut it.

It's a toss up . Right now it's the stickbow, a few years ago the Browning BSS bored skeet / skeet was it.

Mine was built on a 03-A3 action. It had an sport barrel, Timney adjustable trigger, reversed bolt handle, polished bolt, S&K Insta Mounts with a Simmons 44Mag 3-10X44 scope and a black RamLine stock. Using a source I had for once fired military National Match brass, IMR 4350 and Speer 165gr soft point boat tails, that thing was a tack driver at 200 yards. My brother wanted to buy that rifle for years and he finally talked me out of it. I kick myself every day for letting it go.
