I need a new gas can so I'm at Lowes and EVERYONE of them has some kind of new locking device pour spout on them. SO I buy one and I wind up spilling more gas than I have ever spilled before from the old fashioned one trying to figure out how the *&^%$^ thing works
So I root through the trash and find the old gas tank with the split and salvage the old pour spout from it. Sheesh do we now have to start hoarding pre lock gas can spouts too???????
BTW how long has this foolishness been going on????? I haven't bought a new gas can since Hurricane Lillie.

Oh yes, don't you just love the care and concern for the planet, of course we can't have the odd fume wafting into the air we need a new gas can. You know the kind that will spill more fuel on the ground than ends up in the tank, what progress what genius. I hold on to my old gas cans like they were gold plated and will likely put them in my will. I love the planet as much as the next dirt worshiper but can't we be reasonable. I be the dope that designed that can never ever filled a tank with anything.

There's a nozzle extension for them (more $$, btw) that you really have to have if it has the short nozzle.
With the short nozzle there's no way to put gas into a car without the extension.
I have always used a foot long (or so) piece of fuel proof plastic tubing to extend the nozzle on fuel cans, but they seem to have caught onto this trick and the short nozzles are now a weird OD and I can't find any tubing that fits

Ain't *progress* wonderful?

P.S. Keep those old nozzles!
They still fit the new cans.
(the can mfgrs WILL figure it out and change the threads eventually)

Caj do like I do and hit the garage sales & flea mkts for every old gas can you can find!

The old metal ones are the best, got several for Kerosene & gas + mixed gas.

Don't give in to PC - go down swingin'! :D

New "gas cans" are worthless. "Utility cans" are not. Although expensive and only four gallons, this particular utility can has many useful features I like. Oh yeah, "not available for sale in California" should tell you something. ;)

Yup, M & P Freak has it correct. Get a "utility can" designated for off-road use.

You are off the road, right?:D

long--sorry

Yes the new cans are totally off the wall. You MIGHT not have a vapor leak but you will spill & waste more gas on the ground than you ever did with the old cans.

I have a collection of different shapes, diameter and lengths funnels so I can actually get the gas out of the can to where it’s got to go. I just take everything off the can and pure direct with the aid of funnels to where I want the gas to go

My old nozzles do not fit the newer type cans so I make do with the above mentioned funnels. Between my toys (snow mobiles, boat, ATV) and lawn/snow equipment, chain saws portable generator and vehicles I have at least 15 items that can require can type filling.

I live out a ways in the boonies and a prudent person knows that snow or ice storms and other major problems mandates that you keep a bunch of gas on hand for those problems + filling all the smaller equipment.

Because of the ethanol **** now polluting our gas you also have to add Stable or other costly chemicals just to keep your gas fresh. I will save that for another rant!

I just bought 3 more 5 gallon cans and they had a totally different Rube Goldberg spout that was different from any others of the new style cans I had. Fixed them by using a 3/4 drill and going from both sides drilled out all the junk that made the spouts almost impossible to use. Pieces of springs, plastic trap door parts and other useless stuff was removed by the drilling process. Now they work just like the older ones did.:D

AH PROGRESS:rolleyes:
