The Everglades Pizza
For all you pizza lovers, seems a local shop has introduced the Everglades pizza.
Regular pizza topped with goodies. Cost $45.00
Swamp Cabbage
Frogs legs
Gator Hog sausage
Python meat
I have eaten all except Python and individually those are good.
The only problem with this pie is that the damn Python is imported from Asia Yes, imported fillets of python. Like we can't get our own imported ones from the Glades??
Oh well, gotta try one some time.
In other Breaking News from Florida.
Seems a local business man as a new fun thing for kids parties. Forget Pin the Tail, bounce House and all that boring stuff.
He has small Alligators he brings to your home for $175 so they can swim with the little kids in your pool. Not to worry the mouths are taped with water proof Vet tape. Yes, he has a license from the FFWC He also provides safety and science lesson so it might be pretty neat for kids.
Gee Mom can we have an Alligator?, all the other kids got one!

I live in SC and that story was on our news last night.
PS - If you try the pizza, take some pics of that pie.

Same here, I've had all but the Python meat. Bet it would be as good as the rest. We have a Gator farm about 30 miles down the road and you can buy all the gator tail meat you want.

Only if it is seasoned with Everglades Seasoning. Originally produced in my hometown, LaBelle. Also home of the Swamp Cabbage Festival.
Not a snake eater, myself. The rest is good.

Sausage has gator and hog meat in it.
That is how they make gator sausage around here.
We are having our annual alligator festival in Luling, LA this weekend and I am sure that there will be some alligator sausage along with other alligator dishes.
I have eaten nutria sauce picante. Tastes a bit like rabbit.

I like Monkey Dust myself! I used to go to Felda and buy ES by the case to sell at my Indiana fruit stand. I've had a fish camp in Moore Haven (Glades county seat) since 1986.
Here's an old picture of me (left) and a buddy with a stringer of Okeechobee bass.

I've had gator tail, ordered from "Cajun grocer" tasted just like chicken only chewier. (really liked the spicy Cajun batter) Thats the good news. Bad news-it cost (plus S&H) about 5 times the price of chicken. Still, I can say I've had gator, and it was good.
What is "swamp cabbage"?

Yes, it is I accidentally omitted that part.
therevjay,
Swamp cabbage is actual the heart (growing center bud) of the Cabbage palm not really a cabbage by any means,
The Cabbage Palm or Sabal Palm is the State tree by harvesting the new shoots it actually kills the tree so It is done in areas that are going to be cleared for development (are there any left ) Kinda like cleaning a big artichoke.

Swamp Cabbage is Hearts of Palm.
You give it a fancy name, put it in a fancy jar, and charge a fancy price...
It sure kept a lot of Crackers alive, and, like grits, can be made to taste pretty good with enough help.

I prefer thinly sliced. We have lots of non native lizzardos, they all taste the same (chicken) Can't have the Gecko though, he's cool.
I could also send you some dove meat I slaughtered unsportsmanlike in my back yard

I thank you for the thoughtfull offer but the ones hanging out by the squirrel feeder are getting plump. So are the squirrels.
