Favorite Aircraft Movies?
To avoid intruding into the thread, "You Like Airplanes?", I started this one.
Anyone got favorite aircraft-centered movies?
My favorites include, "Battle of Britain", ""633 Squadron", "Flat Top", and ""Midway." Add, "The Bridges at Toko-Ri".

Flight of the Phoenix
I was seriously bummed out when I found you can't really ditch a plane in the desert like you can on water.
The Right Stuff
The scene where the rescue crew is searching for Chuck Yeager after he bails out of the F-104 and one of the rescuers asks: "Sir, is that a man?" and the reply: "You're damn right it is!" still gives me goose bumps!
The Great Waldo Pepper
The Blue Max

Loved watching that movie with my father, who was a crew chief on the B47 in the mid '50s.
Also Twelve O'clock High.

Same here. Except my father refueled B47s. He was assigned to the 4060th Air Refueling Wing, 71st AR squadron at Dow AFB in Maine. He also spent a few months at Thule in Greenland.
Still one of my all time favorite airplane movies.

Maybe not a full length movie, but it was a hugely popular TV program in the late 50's , Whirlybirds, which inspired me to pursue a career as a helicopter pilot.

I believe I have seen every single one of the movies and tv shows listed; I liked all of them, and most are actually pretty good even if the flying part is not believable in some of them. But I suspect the vast majority of professional pilots would tell you that their favorite flying movie is "Airplane", one of the greatest and goofiest comedies ever made. If you are not familiar with it, think "Blazing Saddles" with wings. Bill S

Agreed. If you like Airplane I recommend Zero Hour, the 1957 movie that Airplane was a remake of. It wasn't intended to be a comedy but after watching Airplane it's truly funny.

Top Gun but only because I worked on A-4 Skyhawks when in the navy and love to watch them fly. The rest of the movie is kind of lame. Other than that, 12 o'clock high and dam busters.

Coach is right. This is a amazingly funny movie when seen after "Airplane", and its a pretty good 50's type potboiler when seen before. Bill S

"Five came back"=early film about survivors of a crash in the jungle. There were several re-makes of the same story.
"Fate is the Hunter"
"Island in the Sky"
Oh, I forgot. There is a training film for any Federal employee who has to fly in small planes (I think the class is Basic Aircrew Safety-the M-3 or B-3 Module). It is hilarious and the intro is done by Clint Eastwood.

Memphis Belle - I was stationed at RAF Little Rissington, where they filmed the guys playing football scenes. Some of the young guys in my squadron were volunteered to be on the field playing as extras. The producers had a sneak preview for us at the "Stratford Upon Avon" theater prior to it's release.

How many have seen the 1944 Memphis Belle movie? I have Robert Morgans, who was the pilot, autobiography and in it he talked about making the movie. One thing that struck me was that you don’t think about the sound, including dialog, being dubbed in latter when the crew was Stateside. He said the dubbing was very hard because not only did they relive the mission but the camera picked up things they were too busy to notice themselves. Specifically when they saw planes they knew go down on film. Obviously they knew the plane didn’t come back from the mission but to watch a friends plane go to pieces on the screen was very hard.
